Lucy's POV:

The silence was warm, heavier than I'd imagined. I lay back on the cold floor of my room, my breaths shallow as the familiar voices drifted through the walls. They'd been searching for hours, voices rising in anxious tones as they called out for me, each name puncturing the quiet like a heartbeat, too little, too late.

"Lucy?" Max's voice trembled from the other side of the door, and I closed my eyes, the last of my strength slipping away like smoke. Guilt surged through me, but it was distant, foggy, like I was already fading. I hadn't expected them to look this hard, to care this much.

The noise outside grew frantic, pounding footsteps filling the hall. I could hear Moon yelling, his voice breaking as he slammed against the door. "Lucy! Open up! Please!"I wanted to answer, wanted to tell him I was here, but my voice wouldn't come. The cold seeped in deeper, blurring my vision as the numbness took hold. Panic crept in, and I tried to breathe, tried to pull myself up, but everything was slipping.

It wasn't supposed to be like this...

"Lucy!" Moon's shout was raw, fierce, as they burst through the door. Shadows of my friends, blurred and frantic, filled the doorway, and I felt a strange calm settle over me. I watched as their faces turned from determination to horror, shock freezing them in place.

The regret was sharp now, twisting in my chest, too late to change a thing.

"Lucy, no, no, no..." Maisie dropped to her knees beside me, her hand on mine, warm against the chill spreading through my skin. Her tears hit my cheek, and I wanted so badly to tell her it was okay. To tell her I was sorry. But the darkness was here, closing in, pulling me under as her voice faded. And finally, everything was quiet.
