Chapter 1: The Encounter

The night was warm, and the distant sound of electronic music filled the heavy air of the bar. It wasn't Evan's first time at that spot, but the sense of disconnection was always the same. The flickering neon signs seemed to mock everyone who, like him, wandered through the night in search of something they didn't even know they were looking for. People around him were immersed in their own realities, getting lost in forced laughter and empty conversations, but Evan felt an absolute disconnection from the scene. Deep down, he felt more alone than ever, lost in a sea of empty faces.

That's when he saw her.

Cassie was leaning against the wall, her eyes lost in something invisible, as if the world around her was a blurry curtain, out of focus. Her hair was loose, strands falling over her eyes. The kind of beauty that seemed to exist in another dimension, always just out of reach, beyond any real connection.

Without thinking, Evan walked up to her. It wasn't a conscious decision, just an impulse, as if his body already knew that this was the moment he had been waiting for without even realizing it.

"Hey," he said, his voice rougher than he expected. Cassie looked up at him, but didn't move, not even a smile. She just watched him, as if studying him.

"You're one of the few who hasn't looked at me like I'm a mistake, so far," she spoke in a low tone, but with a confidence that contrasted with the melancholy in her eyes.

Evan smiled, not really knowing what to say. "Maybe it's because I'm a mistake too," he replied, giving a light laugh, but full of bitterness.

She watched him more intently, as if trying to figure out what was behind his facade of friendliness. For a moment, the noise around them seemed to fade, almost disappear altogether. Deep down, they both knew they were seeing something in each other that no one else seemed to understand. Something deep, something invisible. Something that could easily vanish if it wasn't embraced at that exact moment.

"What's your name?" she asked, breaking the silence.

"Evan," he replied, the sound of his voice blending with the soft beats of the music in the background.
