I woke up to dishes clattering in the sink. I rolled over to find a lock of black hair in my face. I smiled when I breathed in the scent, her hair smelled of vanilla, and jasmine. The smell was bound to be stuck in my nose for the rest of the day. I rolled out of bed, the candles had died out. Opening a drawer I got out some matches. I lit the candles on her side of the bed, and my own. The lights didn't work due to the age, and I'm honestly surprised that the water still runs in this place. I took one last glance at Raven, who was lightly snoring, then left my room.
I walked down the stairs hesitantly, I had broken my ankle on these very stairs once, but once was enough. I counted the steps; we had exactly 12 steps going down, then a landing, then a left turn, and 12 steps till the floor. I made sure I knew that, in case I fell. If you didn't know how to get around, navigating this place was a nightmare at night, you would get so lost. I didn't worry about Raven, she seemed to be a late in the day kind of sleeper.
"Morning J." Conner's voice sounded from the kitchen.
"Are you doing dishes?" I spoke, my voice sounding raspy. I cleared my throat.
"Good morning Conner, lovely to see you" he mocked, lowering his voice to match mine. I tapped my throat making sure I didn't sound like an 80 year old smoker. "Sign of good sleep." Conner smirked, walking out through the kitchen door.
"Well how would you know. Do you even sleep?" I mocked, taking a book off the shelf and sitting in the parlor.
"I sleep." Conner spoke, defending himself. He looked down at me, his gray eyes shining with mischief, I scoffed.
"How am I supposed to believe that?" I chuckled, flipping a page. "We never see you sleep." I angled the candlelight so I could read the words.
"Whatever." Conner shrugged, "what are we going to do with the princess?" He walked over, and placed his palms on the back of the sofa.
"I don't know. She needed to go to the village." I spoke, flipping another page.
"Oh shit. Wait." Conner moved fast, sitting on the sofa in front of me. "Speaking of the princess. Where the fuck did she sleep?" My face heated. The book was suddenly my livelihood, if I missed even a word, it felt like the world would explode.
"In a bed."
"What bed?" Conner cocked an eyebrow.
"Mine." I whispered, growing even more interested in my book. When Conner laughed I froze in place.
"Damon's got a crush, and she was in your bed." Conner scoffed, in disbelief.
"She was. But we didn't sleep together." I rolled my eyes, putting the book down.
"Of course you didn't. You're both virgins, or I assume she is. But you, you wouldn't know the first thing," Conner chuckled. I rolled my eyes even more.
"Fine. Whatever. Ignoring your rude commentary." I started.
"My correct observations." He corrected me. I blinked at him. Was he serious?
"Whatever. I was thinking, us four, go into the town. " I smirked.
"The one two days away?" Conner asked, leaning over, his elbows on his knees.
"No, stupid. The one just down the way." I scoffed. His eyes went wide.
"The one Eric got caught at?" Conner hissed.
"Hence, why I said, you, me, Damon, and Raven." I smiled, answering him.
"And what? Leave Eric on babysitting duty?"
