she sings you to sleep

You kicked the blankets off of your body with a heavy sigh.

In frustration, you ran your hands across your face and a groan escaped your lips.

"Why are you still awake?" You heard Jieun ask with a tired voice.

Her eyes were still closed and you could tell she was barely awake though you knew the reason why she was even barely awake was because of you and your constant tossing and turning.

"I just can't sleep."

She rubbed her eyes before turning onto her back.

"It's one am and I've been laying here for hours. I'm so restless."

"You're not tired at all?"

"I am a little but for some reason, I just can't fall asleep."

She opened her arms for you and usually, you'd move into them without any hesitation whatsoever because her embrace always comforts you.

But tonight was just different.

"Baby, I can't sleep. If you hold me and I stay wide awake then I'm going to keep you up all night too. That's not fair to you."

"I don't think you'll be up for too much longer. I was thinking I could hold you and sing you to sleep."

Your heart fluttered at the thought alone and you happily scooted right into her arms.

"It's alright, my love." She whispered as she slipped her hand beneath your shirt.

Her touch was very innocent, only to brush her fingertips in circles along your skin or occasionally let them dance along your spine just to try and comfort you.

"There's nothing on your mind keeping you awake, right? Nothing you want to talk about or get off your chest? I'm here to listen, you know that."

"I know, baby. It's alright. I promise I'm okay. I'm just having a sleepless night."

"Okay. Let me sing to you then, I'll make it better."

You snuggled up to her a little more and she couldn't help but notice how tense you felt.

"Relax."

You did as she said and let out a deep breath as you tried to relax and focus on the warmth and security of Jieun's warm arms wrapped around you, keeping you safe and secure.

A few seconds later, her soft pretty voice filled the air as she sang your favorite song, Love Poem, to you.

"I think someone is praying for someone. I can hear the love poem they wrote holding their breath. I wish it flies to you and arrives at your place before it's too late."

Love Poem is one of your favorite songs by your girlfriend.

You're a sucker for a good ballad; they're just so beautiful.

But there's something so special about Love Poem.

You can feel everything that she's singing about and the song is so beautifully written.

She sang as your eyelashes fluttered against your cheeks and a sense of calm rushed over you.

Jieun knows that this is always one of the best ways to get you to fall asleep when you feel restless as you did tonight.

You just melt over her voice every time and there's no better feeling than getting to hear her sing to you and only you, making you feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

"I'll be there, behind you who walks alone. Singing till the end, this song will be endless. Take a big breath; for you who forgot how to cry aloud... I'll sing. For you to walk again, I'll sing. For you to love again."

She paused and could tell that you were almost asleep, you just needed to hear her voice for a few more seconds.

"Here I am, look at me. I will never, singing till the end, stop this song. On the day when your long night ends, I will be there. Where you raise your head and look..."

As she finished singing the final few lyrics of the song, she listened to you breathe and realized it was soft and steady which meant that you had fallen asleep.

"I knew that would work." She said with a tired but proud smile. "Sweet dreams, my love. I love you and hope you sleep well, you deserve it."

She yawned and put her head back against the pillow as her arms tightened around you.

She wasn't going to let you go; not even as you sleep soundly, all thanks to her.
