Plot:

Talron stood and stared over the edge of the cliff, his dark gaze fixed on the swirling clouds of mist that rose out from the blackness below.

Silvery sheets of water twinkled in the light of the moons as they gushed from the rocks beneath him. He could hear a distant roaring as they met the ground somewhere far from his sight.

"There's a deep pool at the bottom," one of Talron's soldiers murmured, leaning precariously over the cliff. The Gnorc commander was in half a mind to push him over. "It's hard to know for sure. But there's every chance the boy could've survived that..."

Talron groaned. Of course he'd survived, he thought to himself. The boy was shaping up to be more of a nuisance than he was worth.

"Rally our forces," Talron barked suddenly, causing his underling to jolt to attention. "It's time we set our sights on the one who brought us to these impuissant farmlands in the first place. Spread the word, my kin. For tonight, we hunt a dragon."

And as the dark creatures of the night slunk away to plot and scheme, a single, limp form drifted along the lapping waters that cut through the hills far below, unconscious, but very much alive...

The gurgles and murmurs of the languid river were all that Aaron could hear when he finally began to stir. It filled his hazy mind, flowing through every crevice, whispering in every dark corner, beckoning him back into its icy depths.

Then there was a voice, distant, but curiously familiar, lifting him further and further out of the dark and into the waking world.

"Aaron? Can you hear me?" the voice called.

The young man shifted; a large, horned figure was just about visible beneath his drooping lids

The young man shifted; a large, horned figure was just about visible beneath his drooping lids.

"Come on, Aaron! Open your eyes!"

The voice had a playful tang to it, trying to mask a rising concern. Intrigued, Aaron pushed himself upright and blinked.

A dragon stood over him. Sunlight reflecting off the water casted simmering ripples along her beautiful, turquoise scales, and a name started to form as Aaron's gaze slowly drifted up to her smiling face.
