Fading Across The Chessboard
I still remember our first meeting, outside the walls we once knew,
When I cared for nothing-no man, no classmate, no one but myself.
You were simply my friend, and I, yours.
We lived like chess pieces, moving through life side by side, unaware of what we'd lose.I admired you in ways I could never love you,
We had others to love, and others loved us.
But somewhere, we crossed into something more,
And I never expected to call you my truest friend-
For we both knew we were fools,
Fumbling through the wreckage of our own understanding. Our humor, once the bond that held us,
Now cracks beneath the weight of what we've become.
I hate you, because you've stayed the same, yet changed beyond recognition.
Am I truly that flawed? That you began to wound me, without even knowing?I don't know you anymore.
The person I once knew is lost, swallowed by the silence between us.
You never shared your truths, never spoke of the distance that grew.
I hate you, not for the changes I can't control,
But because you've made me sink deeper than the ocean,
Drowning in a sea of regrets, of times we never bothered to cherish.-Youngster
