Tough Love
Chapter 3
We walked out on the beach and started talking.
“So, we could just play 20 questions or something along the lines of that if you wanted to.” Jace said, looking over at me as we started walking.
“Sure, I’ll go first.” I said, then started with the basic questions. “What’s your favorite color?”
“Green, you?”
“Purple.”
“What’s your favorite food?”
“Sushi, you?”
“Pizza.”
With that I rolled my eyes in my head thinking, typical boy answer. We continued the questioning in that fashion until my stomach embarrassingly growled, causing me to blush and Jace to laugh. He asked me if I wanted to go to his house to get lunch, and I agreed. He fixed us PB&Js. We made small talk while we ate, but then went back out onto the beach.
“My friends seemed to like you.” I said.
“That’s a good thing, right?” he asked.
“Yeah, they have to approve of you first.”
“Okay. Would you like to stay for dinner tonight and meet my parents?”
“Uh, sure. Do I need to dress up or come as I am?”
“Well, let me ask real quick.”
He went off to the side and pulled out his phone, when I realized I didn’t even know his number. But he called someone, which I assumed was his parents, but you never know. Suddenly there’s someone calling my name and waving their hand in front of my face.
“Hello???” Jace asked. “Anyone home???”
“Huh, sorry.” I replied startling. “Just spaced out there for a second. So, who’d you call?”
He just looked at me for a second.
“That is if you don’t mind me asking.”
“No, no that’s fine. I called our butler and asked him. Yeah, my parents are dressing nicely, which means you should dress nicely.”
“Okay, what time should I be at your house?”
“I’ll come pick you up at 6 o’clock. OK?”
“Alright, but you don’t really need to do that you know, it’s not even a five-minute walk from my house to yours.”
“Thank you, captain obvious. But first of all my mom would never allow me to let you do that. Second, I wouldn’t allow you to walk to my house in the dark where someone could hurt you.” He said that last part softly, gently stroking my cheek. “And thirdly, we’re not eating at my house.”
“Thank you for caring, but if we’re not going to your house, where are we going?” I asked, taking his hand from my face and holding it in my hand.
“Come on, I’m taking you home so you can get ready.” he said, changing the subject.
“What time is it?” I asked, jumping up.
“It’s 4:30.” He said, pulling me back down to where we were sitting, then pulled me into a hug.
At first I tensed and was going to pull away, then I relaxed and snuggled in closer to him. Why did I feel like this when I barely even knew the guy. But yet I felt comfortable there so I stayed. He chuckled and then grabbed my hand and stood up, pulling me with him.
