Gyutaro P.O.V.
I was in my room when Ume burst through my door, which caused me to fall off my bed.
An annoyed grumble left me, before I asked her in an annoyed tone, "What do you want?"
"I've been invited to a party tonight; you have to come with me."
"Pass."
She pouted, before she turned up the dramatics, "Fine, guess I'll just go by myself, and all those guys will try and hit on me."
It felt like a vein popped on my face, and I gritted my teeth at the tone Ume was using; she was clearly trying to guilt trip me, and it was worked like it always did.
"Fine, but I'm bringing someone else."
I stood up and brushed myself off, before Ume ran up and hugged me.
"Thanks bro, you're the best."
I looked down at Ume, before I started to gently pat her back, "No problem, Ume," I softly said with a sigh.
After Ume let me go, I walked out of my room and down the hallway, when a gremlin came out of the shadows and jumped on my back.
"Fight me!"
"Wha?! Inosuke! Get off of me," I tried to grab the little shit, but he kept avoiding my hands like he was a master.
Inosuke practically wrapped himself around me with how flexible he was. But eventually I grabbed his by the back of his shirt collar, then I held him in the air like a kitten, and he was just as feisty as one. He flailed his arms and legs around like a wild tornado, and it pissed me off.
"Inosuke, listen! If you leave me alone for the rest of the day, you can eat my share of dinner."
Inosuke's eyes practically gleamed once he heard that, and a sigh of relief left me when he stopped flailing around like a cracked up rooster.
"All your tempura will be mine!"
"You always eat half off 'em anyway," I said with a sigh, as I dropped Inosuke to the floor.
It was a fifty-fifty if he'd land on his feet or splat, (It depended on if he felt like challenging the floor or not), and he fell face first onto the wooden floor. Then, like nothing happened, Inosuke popped back to his feet with a big smile and deep chuckle. My hand ran through my black locks as I walked past Inosuke into the living room. Working in the kitchen was Inosuke's mom, who's also my step-mom; she looked almost exactly like Inosuke. She was a housewife and did all the chores at home while me and Ume's dad worked.
"Good afternoon, Gyutaro," She greeted me with a bright smile the moment she noticed me.
"Afternoon," I greeted back, as I walked to the front door.
"Where are you off to?"
"I'm heading to Hakuji's to ask him if he's up for hanging out later," I answered her.
"Alright, have a safe walk," She told me with that same bright smile.
After I walked out the door and down a few blocks, I pulled the carton of cigarettes out from my back pocket and I lit one up. I could feel the wretched smoke and tar go down my windpipe and into my lungs, I could feel it coat and destroy my lungs, yet I didn't care. They made me calm, they made me feel like I had a sense of control, and they made me feel cool; I knew they'd kill me one day, but that's some years away. Hakuji's house was only ten minutes away by foot, and the view as I walked was nice, even if it was just the neighborhood. The trip would've been faster if I drove, but I decided to save the gas for the drive to the party later.
Hakuji's father opened the door a few seconds after I knocked on it. He looked frail and sickly, but I could tell he was a good person. My cigarette had ran out by this point, so I didn't have to worry about that.
"It's good to see you, Gyutaro."
"Is Hakuji home?"
"Oh, yes he is, I'll go get him," With that, he closed the door and I heard his footsteps go further into the house.
Shortly after Hakuji's father left, Hakuji himself opened the door.
"There's a party happening tonight, you wanna come?"
"Can't, got a date with Koyuki tonight."
"Damnit..."
"Why don't you ask Y/N to go? You got her number last week."
My eyes widened at Hakuji's suggestion, before I let out a scoff. I rubbed the back of my neck as I asked him, "Why would I bring her?"
"C'mon man, it's obvious you like her."
An embarrassed blush spread across my face, before he continued with, "We all notice when you turn your head to avoid blowing smoke at her."
"That's just common courtesy."
"Please, you don't give a shit about courtesy, common or not."
I clicked my tongue in annoyance, as I put my hands into my pockets and looked away from Hakuji, "Will she even say yes?"
Hakuji shrugged his shoulders, and said," I don't know. You just have to find out the hard way."
Before I could say anything else, Hakuji got up in my face and glared at me. "Don't be a coward; this is a chance that you need to take."
I grumbled in frustration, mostly because I knew Hakuji was right; if I didn't take this who knew when another chance come up.
As I pulled my phone out of my pocket, I told Hakuji, "I fucking hate you."
"I love you too," Hakuji said with the biggest grin before he shut the door.
It'd been so long before something made my hands shake like this, and it didn't bring up any good memories. My fingers trembled as I tried to type out a message to Y/N, and my nerves caused me to mess up too many times. After what felt like an hour of messy typing, I had sent a message to Y/N, and the breath I didn't realize was being held came out in a deep sigh. Heat had built in my face, and I could just tell that I was blushing like an idiot. The worst part was that Y/N had responded right when I turned my phone off, so I quickly opened it to read her response.
I slowly lowered the phone away from my face after I read the message, and I was speechless that she...
