Chapter 2: Mainic's turn

The days passed really quickly. Manic was now a little worried about it. Yeah he always had a crush on poor Jim but he may not get him as a mate, it actually kept him up at night worrying about who his mate was. What if it was a girl?! He couldn't have that! When he spoke to Robyn about Plank she would gush about him until he asked if she liked him before she found out he was her mate. She always replied that she only saw him as a friend and she had no interest in anyone else. When he asked his dads, Nat said that he was the ass king but always flirted with Rave. Rave said he hated the 'stubborn bastard' but got used to Nat, then fell for him. Johnny said he didn't know Dragoon before finding out he was his mate. Edd and Kevin both had crushes on each other. That made Manic feel a little better but what if? What if it wasn't Jim? He would be heart broken. Edd said just wait and see. If it wasn't Jim he would still fall for them. Everyone backed him up on it.

Sitting on his bed, with another restless sleep under his belt, he looked at the calendar hanging on his wall. It marked his birthday. He was turning 18 today. Luckily school was out on summer break for Xexion but Plank, Jim (damn his smartness), Robyn and Manic were graduated.

Their graduation wasn't special at all. It was more annoying than anything. Cory had to repeat thanks to bad grades. He finally found his mate last month. He won't shut up about it either. He is mated to a dude named Josh. Josh was a total straight playboy before finding out he was a Halfling. He was a little repulsed about the fact he had a make mate but Cory suggested they be friends first. Josh liked that idea and now they are slowly becoming more.

Finally getting off the bed he trudged downstairs. Robyn was already down there chowing down on a bowl of cereal. Manic sighed and grabbed a bowl for himself as he made his way to the table. After taking the first bite, Robyn looked at him confused. He rose an eyebrow as if to ask what?

"You are usually asleep still. Why the hell are you up already?" She asked putting her spoon down in the bowl.

"I'm worried Robyn! What if my mate isn't Jim? What if it's a female?! What if it's a guy that's repulsed by gays?! Y'know homophobic like Cory's? What if I'm rejected? I could probably die of a broken heart like a werewolf!" Manic cried.

"One. You will be fine! Two. You've been reading too much werewolf books bro" she laughed. Manic on the other hand wasn't impressed. He continued to freak out until someone knocked him out mid sentence.

"Nick you just knocked out your future brother in-law with a book" Robyn stated as Nick put the book over his shoulder.

"That's what he gets for waking up X and me from our sleep!" He stated as a very sleepy Xexion walked into the kitchen rubbing his eyes while wearing Nick's shirt that looked like a mini-dress on him. Xexion was short for his age looking about 13 instead of 15.

"Nicky I'm still tired. Let's go back to bed" Xexion whined in a tired voice gaining his mate's attention.

"Ok my sexy little X. I'm still tired too" Nick answered as he walked up to Xexion. He picked him up bridal style, letting Xexion snuggle up to his chest walking back to Xexion's room. On the way back up the stairs he passed Nat whom kept walking into the kitchen, catching the sight of his son knocked out on the table and a book on the breakfast bar.

"Nick knocked out Manic because he was having a freak out about tonight, thus waking him and X. He's super worried about tonight though. So, you should carry your son back to his room so he can sleep dad" Robyn shrugged while getting up to put away the bowl and going back to her room. Nat sighed and picked Manic up like nothing. While he was carrying him to his room Rave came out of their room and raised an eyebrow at him. Nat mouthed an 'I'll tell you after I put our son In his room' to him, gaining a nod.

Manic woke up with a start and looked around. Tears were streaming down his face from the nightmare that played over in his mind. They were in the living room when Manic started to shift. Screaming, he looked over at Jim who looked at him and waved bye and left. Out of his life forever.

Manic looked down at his hands. That was the worst nightmare that he ever had. He got up and stretched and looked at the clock. He slept until 3pm. 2 hours until the party began. He walked downstairs to see Everyone in the living room.

"Well morning sleepy head. I didn't think that book would of knocked you out for that long. 8 hours you were out for." Nat said as he walked up to his son.

"Don't tell me you carried me to my room dad!" Manic whined gaining a nod making him groan louder.

"That's what you get for waking Nicky up when he doesn't want to get up yet!" Xexion pipped up on Nick's lap, on the floor. Manic rolled his eyes at them and grabbed an apple to eat. He just knew today was going to be eventful.

Th party was in full swing and both Manic's and Robyn's friends were at the house. Like at Plank's party the adults were there to support Manic in his time of need. They had kick out the guests early because they were getting too out of hand. 

Nat, Rave and Robyn set to work to make a nest like thing with blankets and pillows so Manic would be comfy before the shift happens.  Everyone else waited downstairs.   Manic kept rocking back and forth.  Jim and everyone else thought because of the pain but Manic was worried about his mate still. 

Nat came down with Rave and Robyn following close behind him.  Nat pointed behind him while looking at Manic.  Manic slowly rose to his feet and shakily made his was to his room where the nest was made.  Manic ditched his shirt and layer down stomach first in the nest and waited. 

Downstairs everyone else waited as well, eyes locked on the front door.  Nick held onto Xexion's waist as Xexy sat on his lap.  Robyn was under Plank's arm and Jim just sat there.  An idea popped into Jim's head and he decided to voice it.

"Who do you think Manic's mate will be?" He asked as everyone turned to him and looked at him like he grew 5 more heads.

"I love ya and all cuz but there is something we gotta tell ya.  Manic has been in love with you for 13 years.  He liked you since you were five Jim.  From what I heard from Robyn, he has been freaking out in a bad way over this whole mate thing.  You were just too oblivious to notice it." Plank sighed rubbing his temple with his free hand.

"YOU DOUN'T THINK I KNEW ALREADY?! I already knew about Manic's infatuation with me.  I love him too but how can we be together when he is freaking getting a mate tonight?! I liked him for the last 5 years Plank and that's why I had to get my hair dyed.  Cory guessed I liked Manic and he knew I couldn't weasel my way out of it.  I do wish I could be his mate but I don't think I am.  He might just get a pretty girl or a gorgeous guy but not me and I hate it!" Jim cried.  Everyone looked at Jim surprised.

"Wow.  We never knew you felt this way Jim" Robyn said breathless like she just got punched in the stomach by Jim's words.

"Jim do you remember us telling you when I found out Kevin was my mate?" Edd asked his son.  Jim nodded slightly.

"I didn't tell you everything.  I had this huge crush on him for a couple years before that day.  I was up at night worrying if I didn't burry myself in schoolwork. I didn't know if I could keep living if I didn't have Kevin as a mate.  You can't give up hope.  I know that Manic hasn't been getting enough sleep from what I heard from Nathan.  We will see who his mate is when the time comes ok?" Edd said as he pulled his son up for a hug. 

Upstairs, unknowing what just conspired downstairs, Manic was about to fall asleep when he felt a tingle shoot through his body.

"IT'S STARTED GUYS!" Manic yelled gaining several ok's from downstairs.  Soon the tingling turned into agonizing pain and Manic couldn't help but scream at the pain.  His eyes scrunched up tightly as he started to pant.  He couldn't take it anymore and actually passed out from the pain.  He didn't even notice that someone had come I to the room and kissed his head.  The figure sat down in front of manic with their wings and tail out waiting for Manic to wake up. 

Downstairs everyone smiled at each other.
