Chapter 8: Who is he?

(Dragoon here!  Two days in a row! Whoo!  Anywho there is quiet a lot of info packed into this chapter even though it's a bit short.  It he whole chapter is Josh's and Manic conversation on the phone.  Don't hate me for a short chapter!  The story will start to grow longer.  If your wondering, yes theirs book is longer than the first.  Halflings was the first book I ever wrote so it was bound to be short.  So on with the chapter, enjoy!)

Sitting against my locker I reached into my back pocket, where my cell was.  I completely ignored the glances and stares from the other students walking down the hall.  I failed the phone number and pressed it against my ear in hopes that he would pick up.

"Yo, this is Josh!" He sounded casual, I'm pretty sure he won't be in a few minutes...

"Josh? It's Manic" I hurried.  I need to know some answers because that 'Uncle' seemed fishy to me.

"Hey, Manic!  Aren't you supposed to be in class?" He asked.

"Was.  Look Josh you are the only person to know Cory better than me and I need some answers.  Cory freaked out when this guy came to pick him up.  I never saw him before and would love to know if Cory actually knew the guy."  I answered waiting for Josh to reply.

"Manic?  What did this guy look like?  I need to know NOW!" He screeched.  I had to pull the phone away from my ear and rub it a bit, cause that hurt!

"Big, muscled, like big time, tattoos covered most of what was visible on him.  He had red hair, kinda like Cory's was before he turned Albino.  He kinda dressed like a biker" I answered, remembering what the guy looked like. Just remembering it gave me shills.

"Shit!  I didn't think he would of escaped!" Josh hissed.  I heard some shuffling in the background.  I'm pretty sure he was pacing.  Josh had a habit of pacing when he was worried.  Now I know Cory has to be in some kind of trouble.

"What? Who? Josh you're not making sense.  I don't know who he was but he claimed to be Cory's uncle.  I got bad vibes from him and Cory looked petrified that he was there.  I need answers Josh!" I asked.  I really need those answers.  I want to know if one of my best friends were safe or not!

"Ok.  Uh, Manic? Please don't freak out when you hear this.  That man is more than likely out for you.  There is an old legend with our kind.  When one is born normal and changes into an oriental, also known as Chinese dragon, a disaster is about to happen.  I heard from Cory about what happened to your family and how X met his mate, uh, Nick?  Since Cory texted me saying that you had the parts of an oriental dragon, I almost freaked.  I know you found your dragon guardian.  I found mine a while back.  Cory's spots on mine are white now.  I just came back from visiting her.  Cory turning Albino also has a meaning.  An albino in our race is actually good luck.  It means a good fortune will happen.  You are actually not the first oriental halfling to appear.  There were ones at these time lines: WWI, WWII, the Black Plague and so on.  Every time an oriental halfling appeared something bad happened. 

An Albino and an Oriental have yet to appear at the same time, in fact they are usually far and few between, the Albino's.  They are extremely rare of course.  Almost as rare as the Orientals. Surprisingly if the oriental or Albino mate with their Mates, usually an actual dragon is born. Either a Chinese lung or a pure white dragon is born from the birth givers.  The orientals and Albino's also give birth to regular Halflings as well.  They usually come either in twins or triplets, or none at all.  Sometimes they have miscarriages. 

Shit Manic, you are double screwed as a homosexual.  Cory is too, in fact.  All of our families are in danger now.  I know the main majority of your family is males, Manic.  Shit! Shit! Shit! Ok I'm done with the history lesson of the halfling past.  Now it's time for you to know Cory's uncle's past. 

Cory's uncle ALWAYS hated gays.  He would bully them and it got so bad a couple times that a few kids committed suicide thanks to him.  In the place hie and Cory's mother grew up, it was peaceful.  Sadly it was a big city.  Cory's uncle became twisted and demented thanks to the sick thoughts he could conjure up in his mind.  Fearing her brother, Cory's mom left and moved here.  She met her mate not long after and had Cory. 

Like Cory's mother, the rest of the family feared him and let him reek havoc.  They knew he would turn violent on them if they tried to stop them.  You see, he was in a gang and that gang was super violent.  Cory's mom had 4 siblings, a sister and 2 brothers.  The youngest was 5 years old when she left.  She would have her family, minus the violent one visit her when she could. When Cory was 10 the family came one last time.  The youngest who was 17 at the time still had his wings and tail, came out as gay.  Cory's mother accepted it with open arms and offered to help him if he needed someone.  When the uncle caught hear of that, they were back at home.  He burned down the house with his family still asleep in it.  Little did he know that the one who came out of the closet stayed over at Cory's. 

Cory's uncle watched as his childhood house burned down to the ground with a huge smirk on his face and turned on the rest of the city.  He killed every homosexual, bisexual, pansexual and so on.  If you had a chance of liking the same gender, he killed you.  He killed humans and halfling alike, bombed gay bars with homemade bombs he apparently made in high school.  He fled and when Cory was at school during the day, he burned down his parents house because they accepted gays.  He was sentenced to life in prison but it looks like he escaped. 

He also has been hunting down the oriental that was prophesied to come and the Albino too.  He thinks he can get a dragon to use magic to turn them into dragons and kill them and sell their pelts.  Manic we are screwed!" Josh explained.  I felt all blood drain from me as he was telling me this.  What kind of heartless man could do this?! Your mate dies when you die.  It's so they don't have to suffer without them.  If Cory dies at the hands of his uncle or I do, Josh and Jim will too!  I felt myself go into a panic attack, then something hit me! Mate! What about him? Did he have a mate?

"Josh? Did he have a mate?" I asked.  I was pretty sure the answer was a no but you never could know!

"Actually yes he does have a mate but they left.  He just pushed them away and they got tired of it and left.  Right after was when he killed all those people." Josh explained.  Wait I still don't understand something.  Cory wouldn't know everything that happened.   So how did Josh?

"So, quick question.  How do you know all of this?  Cory wouldn't know all this." I asked.  I heard a sigh come from the other end.  I'm pretty sure he's not fed up with the questions, he's just worried about his mate.  I would be too if Jim were there instead.  Hell, in fact I would loose my head in worry and be scared to death for him.  I'm absolutely sure that Josh is feeling that right now.  I'm positive that he wants to find Cory and rip off his uncle's head.

"Our guardian Dragon told me when Cory told me his side of the story.  I knew our dragon wouldn't have emotion when telling me this, boy I was wrong. She almost cried when she retold the story.  She also told me the facts about the Oriental and Albino dragon's.  I know a Chinese dragon is suppose to signal luck and stuff like that but mixed with a human, it spells disaster.  Now are we done? I need to get out there and find Cory and rip off that bastard's head for taking Cory away from us" Josh explained.  See what did I say?  I nodded but realized that he couldn't see me so I settled with a quick yes and hung up the phone.  My life has just became hectic.
