Monday arrived, and as soon as Minji entered the classroom, she spotted Hanni waiting by her desk, chatting animatedly with some classmates. When Hanni saw Minji, her face lit up, and she waved her over, patting the empty seat beside her with enthusiasm.

"Minji! I saved you a seat," Hanni said, her usual bright smile beaming.

Minji took her seat with a shy nod, glancing sideways at Hanni. The weekend had been a whirlwind of emotions, and she was still processing it all. Spending time with Hanni as herself—no disguises, no secrets—had felt different, exhilarating even. But beneath the excitement, she couldn't shake the hint of anxiety gnawing at her. Was this just friendship, or was something deeper starting to develop?

As the day went on, Hanni seemed more comfortable around Minji than ever, pulling her into every group activity, saving her a seat in the cafeteria, and even waiting for her between classes. The other students noticed the shift, but Hanni was blissfully unaware of any attention they drew. To her, Minji was her new best friend, and that was all that mattered.

But for Minji, each moment together was bittersweet. Every time Hanni laughed or brushed her arm, Minji felt her heart race, knowing her feelings were slipping into dangerous territory. She was sure Hanni only saw her as a close friend, but that certainty didn't make her growing crush any easier.

After school, Hanni invited Minji to her house to study for their upcoming exams. Minji agreed, although she knew the "study session" would likely involve a lot more chatting and laughing than actual studying. She was okay with that, though; any excuse to spend more time with Hanni felt like a gift.

They settled into Hanni's room, which was as vibrant and quirky as her style. Posters of bands covered the walls, along with polaroids of Hanni and her friends. The scent of vanilla candles filled the air, and a playlist of mellow, indie tunes played softly in the background. Minji tried to keep her composure, but being in Hanni's space felt intimate in a way she wasn't prepared for.

As they went through their notes, Hanni leaned over Minji's shoulder, pointing at her notebook. "Oh, you're so organized! My notes look like a tornado hit them," she said with a laugh.

Minji chuckled, trying to ignore the closeness. "It's just my way of keeping everything straight. It helps me focus."

"Maybe I should get you to teach me your ways," Hanni teased, giving Minji a playful nudge. "Or maybe I'll just borrow your notes before the test."

Minji rolled her eyes, but she couldn't hide her smile. "I guess I could share. For a friend."

"Just a friend?" Hanni said, tilting her head and giving Minji a mischievous smile.

Minji's heart skipped a beat. The way Hanni's gaze lingered on her, the soft glint in her eyes—it almost felt like she was teasing her. But Minji quickly brushed the thought away. She didn't want to misinterpret things, not when her feelings were already so tangled.

Before Minji could respond, Hanni's phone buzzed, and she picked it up, frowning. "Oh, looks like my mom wants me to run a quick errand," she said, sounding disappointed. "Would you mind if we wrapped up soon? I'll make it up to you with a coffee this weekend?"

Minji forced herself to nod, hiding her disappointment. "Of course, that sounds good."

They packed up, and Hanni walked her to the door, still chatting about their plans for the weekend. But as they said goodbye, Minji couldn't shake the feeling that she'd missed a chance to say something—anything—that might have hinted at how she really felt.

As the week went on, Minji found herself analyzing every interaction with Hanni, wondering if there was something deeper behind Hanni's friendly gestures. But each time she started to hope, she reminded herself to stay grounded. Hanni was warm and affectionate with everyone; maybe Minji was just reading too much into things.

One afternoon, Hanni surprised Minji at *Rewind Records* just before Minji's shift ended. Hanni was browsing the vinyl records, her expression full of concentration. When she spotted Minji approaching, her face lit up, and she bounded over.

"Minji! I wanted to surprise you," Hanni said with a grin, holding up a vintage album cover. "Look what I found. Isn't this one of your favorites?"

Minji blinked in surprise, recognizing the album immediately. "Yeah, it is. You... remembered?"

"Of course I did," Hanni said proudly. "You have good taste!"

They chatted for a bit, Hanni giving her opinions on the records she'd picked, and Minji offering recommendations. But as they talked, Hanni leaned in closer, her expression shifting to something more serious.

"Hey, Minji," she said, her voice softer. "I know I've been dragging you everywhere lately, but I just wanted to say... thanks for being my friend. You're probably the best friend I've had in a while."

Minji's heart fluttered at the sincerity in Hanni's eyes. Part of her wanted to believe that this was something more, that maybe there was a hidden layer of feeling behind Hanni's words. But another part of her, the part that feared rejection, reminded her to keep things platonic. Hanni clearly valued their friendship, and Minji didn't want to risk losing it.

"I'm glad, Hanni," Minji said softly. "You mean a lot to me, too."

For a moment, Hanni looked like she was about to say something else. Her gaze lingered on Minji, as if searching her face for something unsaid. But then she shook her head, laughing it off.

"Anyway!" Hanni said, her cheerful tone returning. "I have to go, but don't forget, coffee this Saturday?"

Minji nodded, smiling despite the ache in her chest. "Wouldn't miss it."

Later that evening, Minji lay in bed, replaying every word, every glance, every touch. Hanni was becoming her favorite person, someone she wanted to be with even if it meant never crossing the line between friendship and something more. But the longer they spent together, the harder it was to keep her feelings hidden.

As she lay staring at the ceiling, Minji made a quiet promise to herself: she'd cherish whatever she could have with Hanni, even if it meant keeping her feelings to herself.
