After a few more weeks of work, I was exhausted, so I spent a nice weekend off. I went out a lot more with Selena and Gracie, I called my brother, mom, and dad a lot, and I spent most of my time with my cats.

On my day back to work, the sun was just starting to rise, glowing golden streaks through the blinds in my tiny bedroom My alarm buzzed annoyingly and so I reached out to silence it with a groan. As I slowly got out of bed, I was sore from my running yesterday. I glanced at my uniform hanging on the back of my closet door, ready for the week ahead of me.

I had a quick shower and I threw on my uniform and my badge gleamed in the mirror as I pinned it to my chest, I grabbed my hairbrush, I wrangled my hair into a tight braid, the way I always wore it on the job. I made coffee and peanut butter toast which I loved, and then left for work.

The call came in soon after I arrived and it was a robbery at a small convenience store on the corner street. Nothing too major, no violence involved, just the kind of case I could handle without getting too worked up. After some heavy cases last week, I think this was better.

When Travis and I pulled up, the scene was calm. No flashing lights just Gracie in her normal uniform, talking to the store wroker, who was nervously pacing by the front door.

The store looked like any other I've been to around here with shelves full of snacks, drinks, and a  big selection of energy drinks.

"Just a simple robbery?" I asked, glancing at Travis as we walked toward the officers.

He nodded, his expression more relaxed than usual. "That's what it looks like, the worker says a guy came in and flashed a gun, grabbed a handful of cash, and ran out. and he didn't hurt anyone."

"Good," I said, feeling a little lighter myself.

Officer Gracie Abrams met us halfway, her eyes wide. "Detectives, the guy didn't do anything too crazy, just walked in, demanded the money, and left. he was quick too"

"You got the security footage?" Travis asked, already heading to the counter where the camera feed was stored.

"Yep," Gracie said "We've got the video."

We moved over to the small office in the back, where the footage was playing on a monitor. I watched the screen as a person walked into the store, dressed in a hoodie and jeans, typical. He approached the counter, pointing at the chasier, who quickly opened the register.

"Looks like a textbook robbery," I muttered. "No struggle or fight."

Travis squinted his eyes  at the screen. "Wait can you it a little."

Gracie hit a button and it went. Travis leaned in, his eyes looking at the robber who was trying to pull something out of his pocket and after a few seconds, the guy eneded up pulling out a... banana.

I'm not sure if I was seeing things right. "Did he just...?"

Travis raised an eyebrow. "Yeah um? That's not a gun. It's literally a banana"

I had to stifle a laugh. "Are you serious right now?"

Travis rubbed his face and seemed like he was trying not to burst out laughing "He threatened the cashier with a banana, that's crazy"

The footage showed the robber waving it around like it was a weapon, and the cashier nervously handing over cash. This was crazy to believe.

"Do you think he realized it wasn't convincing?" I asked, shaking my head.

Travis chuckled. "Maybe he thought it was a trick, I mean like you don't know if it's a gun or not, or something like that. But at least he didn't hurt anyone."
