Livia Swan━or Via is the best or worst person you'll ever meet in your useless and miserable life.

  The camera zooms in on a girl riding a bicycle down the street. Pink hair in the wind, bright hazel eyes, freckled skin. LIVIA SWAN has earphones in her ears, a country song sounds and she hums it slightly, the dirty lips of the cherries she ate with SARAH CAMERON before. JOHN BOOKER ROUTLEDGE is in the Twinkie when he passes by and greets her. POPE HEYWARD leans over and smiles at her; JJ MAYBANK waves a military nod to her; KIARA CARRERA throws a kiss.

JOHN B (VO)(CONT'D).

I think we're all a little in love with her. I mean, have you seen her?

  CLOSE-UP SCENE of Livia smiling.

But Livia is a mess. Like, a total mess. You know JJ? Double that━triple that. Her mom died in a car accident and now she's a kind of Kook. She lives in the big blue house by the sea with no less that Topper Thornton. Her half-brother. And yes, Sarah Cameron's boyfriend. The only person Livia spends time with when she's not with us. We all think they're in love but we don't want to tell Livia that we know her secret... she would murder us. It may sounds like a total cliché but Livia spends her morning with us on the Cut and the late night partying with her best friend, Sarah's friends and her older brother.

  Slow motion scene of a party at FIGURE EIGHT. She dances with her ringed hands wrapped around the figure of Sarah, who puts her head on her shoulder. WES SWAN has a drink in his hand as he looks at them before RAFE CAMERON comes up and grabs his shoulder, pushing him towards the bathroom.

JOHN B (VO)(CONT'D).

Even though she lives on the other side of the island, we all know she's still a Pogue by heart. Her dad is a real asshole, man. Aaron Thornton realised too late that he had three other children in the Cut━we all wonder what would have happened if Soleil had never died. He probably never wanted to meet them. Livia told us he doesn't pay for fixing her broken window, but he still managed to sign her and Wes up to the country club. He completely ignores his older son, Carmen. Anyway, I know it is difficult to admit but we all have a soft spot for the Swan siblings. I know Carmy works at Kie's dad restaurant but we never really talked. It was more Livia and Wes. Pope is completely obsessed with Wes. Like━he talks about him at least five times a day? But never when Livia is around us. He's too scared.

  EXT. of THE SHELL COTTAGE. Livia is painting a terracotta ash holder. She chose blue and yellow. Wes is sitting in the padded hammock with a joint between his lips as he watches his sister lick her lips while she finishes her work. ENTER: CARMY SWAN, the eldest. He is wearing a restaurant employee suit and has plastic bags in his hands with leftover food. FAST ZOOM on the face of AARON THORNTON, he is watching his children with a drink in his hand.

JOHN B (VO)(CONT'D).

Livia never talks about herself, so none of us really knows what's going on in her life. To tell you the truth, she was always more friend with JJ than with the rest of us. See, those two know each other since they were born━they lived next to each other and all that crap. They've been always attached to the hip. I think they are the only people who know everything about each other. When JJ isn't with us, he's with Livia. I've lost count of all the times he's left us alone because Livia asked him to do something just the two of them or because she felt sad or bored. Honestly, I don't understand how they never fall in love. They are the same person from different point of views. They would kill to protect each other━and I'm not kidding. I know that JJ don't see her that way, he always told me that. He had a crush on Livia when they were younger but he doesn't want to lose her. He doesn't want to fuck up things with her━that's what I think.

  Livia and JJ are caught as Livia climbs on his shoulders and runs off to the sea together. JJ holds her by the thighs, they go into the water and scream together before diving. Livia is the first one who comes to the surface, JJ reaches her. The two look at each other and then burst into laughter. THE CAMERA STOPS on her face that quickly becomes sad, then she runs out of the water.

  SCREEN CUTS of a KEGGER. The moon is high in the sky and the music is loud. Her hand is stuck in Sarah's and they share a bottle of wine. Livia puts her head on the her shoulder and stroke it with her red hair.

JOHN B (VO)(CONT'D).

Livia doesn't know it, but JJ told me they went to a party together two weeks after Soleil died. She was a walking disaster and JJ thought it was the best thing to do, to clear her mind for a while━clearly it wasn't. She fucked Nick Lambert in the bathroom, broke down crying in front of him because she regretted it and then told JJ that she loved him. Everything in the same fucking night. He told her he didn't feel the same, end of the story. The next day Livia said she couldn't remember anything and JJ wanted to believe her. Anyway, since that moment I've always seen Livia and Sarah. Now... I'm not taking anything, but it's weird. But Livia would tell us though, right? Or at least JJ would know if her best friend is having a thing going on with Sarah Cameron!

LAST ZOOM on Livia and JJ, they're swinging on the hammock outside the Château. JJ's head is on her chest and she's stroking his hair. A song by Frank Ocean rings out from a broken phone just a few feet away. Pope, Kiara and John B look at them.

JOHN B (VO)(CONT'D).

I don't believe in a lot things, but I'm pretty sure JJ is jealous of Livia and Sarah. In the end... he wants her for himself, as she has been all his life. It's JJ and Livia at the end: J&L as written into a tree trunk near the Château, and Pope and I thought they would be together at least by the end of high school. Maybe JJ is just in his denial phase. Maybe he'll flip by the end of the summer━if Livia is not taken.

  Last look at Livia Swan; she is smiling.

JOHN B (VO)(CONT'D).

Livia is an angel to all of us.
