"I just saw Haley's comet, she waved, said 'why you always running in place?' Even the man in the moon disappeared- somewhere in the stratosphere."
Amber taps her pencil along the paper in front of her- her glasses rested loosely on the tip of her nose as her eyes scan the words over and over again trying to make something of it.
But she's never been good at computer science, no matter how hard she tries.
She doesn't even know why she decided to take it in the first place; maybe she had too high of an ego this year.
"Tell my mother, tell my father I've done the best I can to make them realize this is my life- I hope they understand.."
Amber lets a deep sigh pass her lips as she wets them, her mind racing over the possibilities of her own fate. Lucy had basically told her that she is her own killer; which had only made her fear of the outcome worse.
Amber doesn't fear death, no she has never once thought of it as something bad, but to do it to herself is something completely different and she doesn't know how to feel about it just yet.
Amber's eyes dart to her phone across the desk that had lit up with a little tune. Reaching over to answer the text, she notices she had actually received a few texts from Summer and Quinn asking where she is.
Before she could answer either one of them, a knock on her bedroom door echoed under the music playing from her radio causing her to get up and lower the volumes before cautiously making her way to her door. "Lucy." Amber breathes out, her shoulders relaxing as she opens the door wider for the older (or younger?) girl to step in.
"I'm sorry." Lucy immediately states, her hands finding her pockets as her eyes focus on Amber who pushes her glasses up her nose further, her eyebrows pinching at her words. "About what?"
"I'm sorry that I didn't tell you sooner." Amber watches Lucy for a moment. Her first thought of Lucy had been funny, she had seen the girl as the old bunkmate from camp but as she continued to see her that comical feeling turned into jealousy.
Ambers jealous of Lucy.
The bubbling envy coursed through her every time she saw Lucy and she hated it. Not that there isn't anything to be jealous of Lucy over, there is, but Lucy is everything Amber wishes she was.
Brave, funny, beautiful.
She got the attention of the one boy Amber pins for and it burns through Amber like a bullet wound leaving her with nothing.
Amber finally offers a spot on her bed to the girl who gladly takes it, still eyeing her, waiting for her to say something. "You don't have to be sorry, Lucy. Your first priority should always be your family. Whatever happens to me is my fault, not yours. And besides, it's not going to happen, right? I mean Summer is going to live, Emmy will live. I have friends who will help me through whatever trauma comes my way." Amber sighs, looking ahead of her at her wall before looking at Lucy with a soft smile.
"Don't feel guilty for something you can't control."
Lucy smiles at this, matching Amber's relaxed state before scratching her cheek, her eyes shifting from Amber's room to her and back to Amber's room.
"There's also something I have to tell you.."
The party's music blasts in Amber's ears as she brings a red solo cup to her lips taking a big swing. Her braided head swishes to the beat as she's pulled away from the dance floor by her upper arm causing her to spill slightly on the floor.
