The Duet

It came as a surprise to no one when the figure skating association announced the new event: a duet competition. It was designed to test skaters not only for their individual skills but also their ability to work with a partner. And, as fate would have it, Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo were paired together.

At first, neither of them were thrilled. They were rivals, after all. The idea of performing together seemed absurd.

"Why the hell would I want to skate with you?" Bakugo had spat when the announcement was made. "You think I need a partner? I work alone!"

Shoto had merely nodded, his gaze neutral. "Then I'll carry us."

The words hung in the air, and Bakugo scowled. "You carry us? You're the last person I'd trust with that."

But the match-up had been decided, and there was no backing out. The rules were clear: they had to practice together. They had to coordinate their moves, perfect their timing. Shoto was nothing if not disciplined, so he agreed to the arrangement. Bakugo, on the other hand, only agreed because he refused to lose.
