Chapter 5: The Diary

Shadow's POV

I bumped into (Y/N), and all they did was stutter again and ran off, like they always do. I went downstairs to greet Sonic, because Rouge forced me. "Sonic....hi." I blurted out, rolling my eyes and taking a seat next to Rouge.

"Shadow.. you've got to be more nice sometimes, he's your own friend." Rouge snapped her fingers at my face and growled at me, but all I did was let out a 'Hmph' and cross my arms. "I never agreed to have a conversation with Sonic, he's not my concern." I sighed and got up from the seat, when suddenly, Sonic pulled my arm.

"Shadow!.. (Y/N). Where did they come from?" Sonic turned his head to look at me, eager for an answer. I responded, "I found them on the streets. They were begging for a home, and I couldn't just leave them out there." Sonic gasped and said, "Looks like the Ultimate Lifeform is starting to care about people, aren't they?" 

Rouge and Sonic started snickering, and Rouge replied, "Someone's in love." I blushed, but quickly rolled my eyes. "I don't even know that pathetic human. They don't matter to me, and neither do you." I growled at them and walked away. I couldn't handle them anymore. They always poke in my own business, and it's never gonna be the other way around.

While I was walking upstairs, I spotted (Y/N)'s room. I was a little bit curious.. why were they avoiding me? Once I opened the door, (Y/N) was sleeping on the bed, as silent as a baby. They were pretty cute, I will admit. It was nice to see them getting used to things, especially since this is such a big change for them.

I was looking around, when suddenly I heard the faint noise of something falling. It was a diary, possibly (Y/N)'s. I picked up the diary, looking at it. Interesting.... what did they write? 

December 20th, 2023:

IT's been amazing for me today! This is my first diary entry, so I am SUUUPER excited! I left coffee beans at Shadow's door at always, and I've really been admiring him. He's super cute. Did I mention he's cuute? OH. Haha... I wrote that a little bit too much. I can barely look at Shadow in the eye anymore. I wanna get close to him... I love him, and I hope we're together one day. Hopefully no one knows yet except me, so that's good enough.

So... they're the one giving me all those coffee beans? And they think I'm.. cute? What kind of confession is that? Who would write THAT in their diary? And more importantly, they were... admiring me? And..... they love me? This must be a joke, holy chaos. They must be playing with my feelings. Feelings? I HAVE NONE! Ugh...

December 21th, 2023:

Okay! Second diary entry! Shadow has really been stressing me out... but I did get to meet Sonic today! He introduced himself.. but while I was headed upstairs, he said something about me being in love with Shadow. He probably was mistaken, of course not! I would never be in love with him... but..... I might be. It's complicated. But.. I can't even look Shadow in the eye without running away. I can barely talk to him. It's like he doesn't want to talk to me.. and.. that's okay, I guess.

Okay okay.. this is actually getting serious. (Y/N)'s obsession with me might be true... but how can I be certain this is (Y/N)? I mean, this was in their diary, but I can't just confront them.. they'd hate me forever. And it seems they are pretty much afraid of me... so...

"Shadow? What are you doing?" Sonic came in the room, putting his hands on his hips and looking down at me. I hid the diary behind my back and said, "What? Nothing, faker. Go away." I punched him quickly and he ran off. That was close... Now, I've got to put this back. Quickly.

I put the diary on a nearby shelf, closed the diary, and ran off, closing the door. Couldn't be caught, right? Just a diary. Won't get me into trouble..at all.
