It was spring. Flowers blooming. Rain dripping. It was the peak of James and Betty's relationship. Betty was having a birthday party that day. She couldn't have been more excited.

For the party, Betty wore a vintage tee with high heels and black lipstick. Everyone was coming, friends, family, and James.

It was time. The rain started pouring 10 minutes before it started. When Betty had her high heels, on while walking on cobble stone, it was satisfying. Calming even. Everyone started coming. It was her 17th, almost an official adult. It had to be special.

It was outside her house at her patio. Balloons everywhere. She didn't have a specific theme, just her favorite colors. As she was greeting her friends and family, someone caught her eye. It was James

James had a gift bag with him. Not too small, not too big. It had hearts and trees on it with her name.

"Hi James!"

"Hey Betty. Happy birthday."

"Thanks! You can set your gift on the table."

The table Betty pointed to the table filled with stacks of presents. Almost more than her Sweet 16 last year, a total of 36 presents and 38 cards.

It was almost time to blow out her candles. Almost time to get her own car. Her parents promised to buy her a car for her 17th birthday since all she drove was the family car that was around 6 years old. Not too old, but it always broke down too often.

James had walked up to her to hug her.

"I love your shirt. I haven't seen you wear it in a long time." James said.

"Thanks! Just been saving it for a special day."

After a few seconds of silence, James walked away.

"Betty! Time for cake!" Betty's mom shouted.
