It was a bright morning but Lingling woke up with a start of a headache, a dull throbbing at the back of her head. Her thoughts last night prevented her from sleeping at her usual bed time. She groggily stood up and fixed her bed before doing her morning routine for school.

She hurriedly went to the kitchen to grab something to eat but her mama already beat her to it, at the kitchen counter already packed was 2 stacks of pancakes and fruits, with a note that said, "Share with Orm. Love you."-Mama <3

She just shook her head and smiled. Their parents are oblivious of the brewing feelings within Lingling and the whole sharing breakfast thing was something she looks forward to but at the same time, something she wants to avoid. They've been doing this as long as she can remember, her and Orm always sharing breakfast even on weekends when one of them comes over. It was something both their mother enjoy doing for their kids, a great bonding experience they always say.

Ling set about going to school. Her migraine still persisting, occupying her mind the rest of the way to school.

When she reached their usual breakfast table, Lingling buried her face in her hands to try to relieve some pain. She felt Orm before she can see her, a cacophony of things being set on the table. When she opened her eyes she was met with a pair of worried amber eyes.

"Lingling Kwong? What's wrong? Are you having a migraine?", her voice soft and full of worry.

Lingling can only nod. Her migraine although reaching the back of her eyes, as if the pain was clawing their way out was the last in her thoughts.
She was stunned by Orm's eyes. The soft curve of her eyebrows, crinkled in worry. The honey doe eyes, piercing her with a stare she couldn't decipher. The morning sun was hitting her iris, igniting a kaleidoscope of colors- gray, amber, specks of gold; all melted honey and well worn leather. Her eye lashes perfectly framing the symmetry of the portrait like eyes. Unbelievable.

Thump. Thump.

She heard her heart beating. Her usual steady heartbeat racing and racing the longer she stared.

Thump Thump.

Her heartbeat echoing in her mind. Forgetting the world completely.

She was jolted awake as Orm's hand touched her forehead, gauging if she have a fever.

"You don't have a fever. It might be your migraine. Lemme just get your meds.", as she was rummaging through her bag. The other girl usually has Ling's medication on her bag.

"Hey. Let's eat a little then drink this, okay? I got us some hot chocolate.", as she handed Lingling a thermos and her meds.

"Thank you, Orm.", she managed to whisper. Her brain a mush both from her racing heart and the pain of her migraine.

They ate in relative silence, Orm knowing that loud noises can make Lingling's migraine worse opted to stay silent. Glancing at the other girl every few seconds. Her hands automatically putting more fruits to Ling's lunch box as she knew how much the other girl loves fruits and scraping out some whipped cream from Ling's pancakes as she also knew that the other girl doesn't like sweets too much. Their dynamic- quiet, familiar and comforting; a testament of the years knowing each other inside out.

They were done after Orm made sure that Ling drank her meds. She guided the two of them to class, carefully navigating the hallways with her hand pressed into Lingling's back. Before they parted, Orm looked at her one last time. Her eyes piercing into Ling an untold question of "Are you okay if I leave you here?". Lingling only nodded, words stuck in her throat as she reassured Orm with a smile. The other girl accepted it, nodded back and patted her head before going to her own seat.
Lingling sighed, a belly deep sigh trying to clear out her thoughts. She didn't notice how she was holding her breath every time Orm stares at her. Those damn gorgeous eyes.

Another school day finished before they know it. Her migraine came and went after Orm's insistence to drink her meds on time, carefully guiding Ling through the hallways during lunch time and breaks, putting oil on the back of her neck and letting her use her inhaler. Ling's head was okay after the long day but her heart wasn't, every glance at Orm sent her heart stumbling like two left feet trying to dance.

She's back at her desk at home, her pen gliding across the pages.

A peek into the abyss,
naming the untold-
all tangled strings
breaking away from her honey eyes.
Mud caked hands
digging through the trenches,
deeper and deeper into the earth.
it was a journey-
to deep devotion.
an unraveling
breaking open enclosed doors.
Neither to heaven or to hell,
whose to say that pining leads to anywhere?

Her poem started and ended with her hands shaking. Her disbelief evident in the words reflected, she read the poem again and again trying to voice out into simple words what she's feeling.

"No. No. It can't be. It shouldn't be. There is absolutely no way.", Ling thought.

She stood up and left her notebook on the table. She buried herself into the covers of her bed trying and failing to fall asleep until exhaustion won over and she fell into a fitful sleep. Brown eyes haunting her deep in her dreams.
