Aurora stood at the entrance of Forks High School, a nervous knot in her stomach.

She wore a fitted, cream-colored top with subtle pinstripes, pairing it with a pleated black mini skirt. Black Mary Jane and a slouchy black shoulder bag hung at her side. To complete the look she decorated her hair with a star-shaped hairpins, one black and one silver.

It wasn't just the first day at a new school—she had already been to school in Arizona before coming here.

The reason for the late start was something more personal. Bella had been worried that she transfer to Forks, citing all sorts of "new beginnings" and "family adjustments." Aurora hadn't fought it much.

There was something about the idea of a fresh start that had appealed to her, even if it meant arriving a month late into the semester.

As she passed by a group of students, she overheard one of them whisper, "Isn't that Bella Swan's sister? Why's she starting so late?"

Aurora quickly looked away, fighting back the urge to explain.

The truth wasn't anything she needed to share. There was no need for anyone to know why she had left behind her life in Arizona—why she had come here to live with Bella. Not yet, at least.

Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the double doors and stepped inside.

The lights hummed softly above, and the faint smell of pencil shavings and cleaning supplies filled the air.

Bella had walked her through the office paperwork earlier that morning, so all she had to do was find her first class.

The hallways were buzzing with energy. Groups of students stood by their lockers, chatting and laughing, while others rushed to class.

Aurora clutched her schedule tightly, scanning the paper for room numbers as she navigated the unfamiliar building.

Aurora had just found her locker and was fumbling with the combination when a voice talked behind her.

"Need some help with that?"

Aurora turned to see a pretty girl with sleek black hair tucked behind her ears, dressed in a blue sweater with a white top inside, white skirt and shoes to go with it. She had a sharp, confident smile that immediately made Aurora feel a little more at ease.
