The animals began to retreat to their painted positions as the first light of dawn peeked through the windows. "It's time," the lioness said softly. "Your baby is ready to meet the world."
Maya felt a sudden, familiar twinge. Her breath hitched as she realized the contractions had begun. "Liam!" she called out.
Liam rushed in, concern etched on his face. "Is it time?"
Maya nodded, clutching his hand. "Yes, but... the animals... they spoke to me."
Liam blinked, unsure of what she meant, but he nodded. "We'll talk about it later," he said with a nervous laugh, guiding her to the car.
