Five-year-old Jin was waiting in front of the operating theatre with his father and uncle. The hospital hallway was quiet except for the occasional footsteps of nurses and the soft murmur of visitors. Jin swung his legs as he sat on a bench, his eyes fixed on the closed doors. His father stood beside him, his face tense, while his uncle tried to lighten the mood.
"Papa, how many more hours do we need to wait?" Jin asked curiously, glancing up at his father with wide eyes.
His uncle chuckled, ruffling Jin's hair. "Are you excited, Jinna? Tell me, do you want a little brother or a sister?"
Jin paused to think, his small hands clutching the edge of the bench. "Hmm... I like both! If it's a girl, I'll buy her lots of toys and protect her. If it's a boy, I'll share all my toys with him!" His voice was filled with innocence and excitement.
His uncle and father exchanged smiles. "You'll be a good big brother, Jinna," his father said, patting his head.
Just then, the doors to the operation theater opened, and a nurse stepped out holding a tiny baby wrapped in soft white cotton. The baby's face was barely visible, but Jin could see its rosy cheeks and closed eyes. He gasped in awe.
"Is this a boy or a girl?" Jin asked, his voice filled with wonder.
The nurse didn't answer but instead turned to Jin's father. "Mr. Kim, the doctor would like to have a word with you. Don't worry; we'll take care of the baby. Once the sedation wears off, we'll move your wife and baby to the room."
Jin's father nodded, his face growing serious, and the nurse walked away. Jin quickly hopped off the bench and tugged at his father's sleeves. "Papa, what did the nurse mean? Is everything okay?"
"Come, Jinna. Let's see what the doctor has to say," his father said, holding Jin's hand as they walked to the doctor's office.
The doctor greeted them with a calm smile but quickly turned serious. "Mr. Kim, your child is unique. He's what we call intersex, which means he has characteristics of both a boy and a girl. This is rare, and we'll need to monitor his development until he's about five years old to determine which gender is dominant. As of now, it appears that male characteristics are prominent. He's healthy but fragile, so extra care will be needed."
Jin's father nodded, absorbing the information. After they left the office, Jin tugged on his father's hand again. "Papa, what did the doctor say?"
His father kneeled down and placed a gentle hand on Jin's shoulder. "Your little brother is special, Jinna. He'll need a lot of love and care, and I know you'll be the best big brother he could ever have."
Jin's eyes sparkled with excitement. "A brother? What should we name him, Papa?"
Later that evening, they were all in the room, standing beside the crib where the tiny baby lay sleeping. Jin's mother, still recovering but radiant, smiled down at her newborn. "We'll name him Taehyung. Kim Taehyung."
"Taetae! I'll call him Taetae!" Jin declared, clapping his hands.
His mother chuckled softly. "Yes, Taetae it is."

"Taetae, don't run too fast." Jin was running behind the small boy who was following a butterfly.
"Huuhie, come on," Taetae said while running fast.
Taehyung, barely four years old, turned to grin at Jin but tripped and fell. Jin rushed to him, panic evident in his face. "Oh no! Taetae, are you okay? Where does it hurt?"
