CHAPTER VIII
Madeleine's POV
A set of curtains were yanked back and the sun streamed into the room through the window.
Abigail shook my shoulders. "Madeleine! Get up!”
I groaned. “Mmph.” I buried my face in the soft pillow after trying to shove her away.
When I didn't get any reaction, I opened one eye to find that she was gone. I sighed and snuggled up in my comfy blanket.
Finally.
Abigail was standing at my doorstep when I had returned home with Ethan yesterday. She had asked me whether she could sleep over, since her parents had gone to Canada to visit some of their relatives there. She had come about an hour earlier and had been sitting on the porch since then.
I obviously couldn't say no to her, so I agreed. Inwardly, I was terrified that I would have a nightmare in front of her.
After telling Abigail what happened on the date, we had started watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix. I was deadbeat after the date; but I was scared that if I slept, I'd have one of my nightmares. I didn't want her to know about it.
By the time we had finished an entire half season back to back, it was 4 a.m. and we didn’t even have a second of sleep. I fell so deep asleep that I didn’t get any nightmares, for the first time.
I would have slept for no more than 10 seconds, when Abigail called my name again. I reluctantly opened my eyes to see what she wanted. She stood near my bedside with a small bucket.
I just shrugged and closed my eyes once again.
Nothing can ever be more important than sleep.
Suddenly, an entire bucketful of ice cold water drenched me and I sat up straight, sputtering and coughing.
“What the fraken fudge?!” I screamed, looking up at her.
“I warned you!” A smug look framed her features.
“By calling my name.” I deadpanned.
She shrugged. "Yeah. You’re supposed to understand.”
“Uh-uh."
"Just go and get ready."
I grumbled something about payback being a female dog before stalking off to the washroom like a zombie.

Standing in the parking lot of the school an hour later, I realized that we were early. I wanted to slap Abigail and scream in her face, but I was still a little groggy, so I left it for later.
My stomach grumbled as Abigail handed me a granola bar. I munched it in record time, the granola bar not enough to appease my hunger despite the lavish food I ate under the beautiful yellow lights yesterday night.
I licked my lips lightly as I thought about the kiss I had shared with Ethan. I've had a boyfriend before, but this kiss was… different. Something was off about it and it didn't feel like the way I expected it to be. But nevertheless, it was beautiful.
Suddenly Abigail spoke, interrupting my train of thoughts. “Why are you smiling like a rapist? Do my pants have a hole? Or is this about him?” She smirked at the last part.
Her smirk grew wider as she noticed me turn slightly red.
I stood next to her as she messaged someone when I felt a pair of strong arms encircle my body and a chin rest on my head, making me feel all fuzzy inside.
