{Chapter 2}

Earth

September 13th, 2149

Immediately Marlow and dozens of kids started to surge forward, eager to touch the ground in front of them. Marlow reached over and grabbed Octavia's hand, excitement coursing through her body, as the Blake girl pushed her with a smile on her face, urging her to explore. Marlow ran through grass and trees, jumping over roots that had been overgrown, a feeling of pure joy coursing through her veins. In no time she found herself staring at a bed of flowers and overgrown weeds, a sense of bliss overcoming her. She tucked tendrils of brown hair behind her ears as she continued to stare at the white flowers that had taken over the murky earth.

"Taraxacum Officinale." Marlow mumbled as she picked up the white puffy flower that was laying on the ground.

"Blooming Dandelion." A voice said from behind her, but instead of being scared or startled, Marlow instantly smiled upon recognizing the voice.

She whipped her head back before standing up and surging forward the hug the boy who was standing there smiling at her.

"Monty!" She exclaimed into his shoulder, as his arms wrapped tightly around her waist.

Before Monty could reply to the eager girl, another voice rang out.

"Whoa, whoa! Where's my hug?" Jasper Jordan asked with his hands held out.

Marlow's smile somehow became even bigger as she rushed forward to hug her other best friend.

"How the hell did you two get arrested?" She asked the two boys, pulling back to look at them properly.

"Oh, you know us and plants, just can't seem to keep away from them. Speaking of which, can you smoke that?" Jasper asked gesturing towards the dandelion that was still in Marlow's hand.

"No."

"Yes.

Both Monty and Marlow looked at each other, before Marlow made a face telling the boy to shut up as she handed the flower the Jasper. Only when she handed him the plant did she notice the figure that was standing a few feet away observing her. None other than Bellamy Blake was watching her, with a mix of confusion and wonder in his eyes.

Marlow turned away, furrowing her eyebrows, just in time to see Monty grab the plant form Jasper before he actually tried to smoke it.

"Come one, we have a lot to explore." Marlow laughed before grabbing her two best friends by their arms.

She let them both go once they got closer to the dropship, so they could explore some by themselves, while she went to go see what actually happened on the ship.

If there was three things Marlow hated, it was secrets, surprises, and mysteries. Basically, just the unknown. She hated not being in control of her surroundings at all times, and right now finding out why the dropship failed was the best way for her to remain in control.

Only when she reached the ramp of the drop ship did she notice Clarke and another boy talking in worried tones.

"All that matters right now is getting to Mount Weather." Was all that Marlow heard before quickly walking towards the two.
