I woke up to beeping noises and machines connected all over.
Scenes from last night came crashing down on me and I cold shiver went through me as I remembered how I had felt last night. That feeling was worse than death. The fact that I had almost died was not comforting at all, but I was more worried about the man I had seen just before I had passed out.
Who was he?He had to have been a doctor if they had allowed him into the surgery room right?
Or maybe he wasn't even there. I mean I was on the brink of death when I saw him. So maybe I had seen wrong. I had hallucinated. Any explanation made sense to me at that point.I sighed as I sat up in bed, the pain killers had worked magic and I felt absolutely and completely numb.
I had woken up in the morning to see Rachel sitting next to my bed. The relief on her face when I had opened my eyes was something beautiful, and the short little blonde woman had run off some hours later, already late for her shift. Tim, my co-worker and the reason I was alive had dropped by too. And brought me flowers.
He had explained how he was taking out the trash when he heard a gunshot. Instead of running away, he had run towards it. Almost like he knew it was me who had gotten shot.
I was grateful to Tim a lot, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here.
A nice doctor had also come in. He had told me about how they removed the bullet and how I was lucky to be alive. It seemed the bullet had missed all the vitals. I had, however, lost a lot of blood. He said he was very surprised at how fast I was healing, called it a miracle.
In all this, all I wanted to ask the doctor was if they allowed men in black into all their surgery rooms. Or if doctors were now allowed to wear black. I had stopped myself from asking because I knew I sounded crazy.
And then, my door was abruptly opened, the force causing me to look up in shock.
And there he was again, clad in black. Just like in the surgery room. And he still seemed as scary as the first time I had set my eyes on him.
He screamed danger. Evil.
Bile rose to my throat as I saw him walk in with 3 other people, 2 gents and the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
Who were these people and what were they doing here? Had they come to finish the job they had started last night? That had to be it, and I readied myself to scream.
But as I opened my mouth, no sound came out.
"Well, clearly our brother was not crazy nor drunk" the shorter and younger looking man spoke out with a chuckle which earned him a glare from the man in black.
I stared at them in fascination. And they stared at me like how people would stare at a caged animal in a zoo. Or how people stare at a science experiment.
"Is there something on my face. And what the fuck are you guys doing in my room?" I finally asked, getting irritated by the stares from the quartet.
They remained quiet and still stared at me. I tried to say something else but somehow my voice now seemed to fail me.
"So just to clear the air, you can see all 4 of us right?" shorty spoke again.
"Well, duh"
I wanted to say this. I tried moving my lips, but still no sound was produced from my voice box.
What were they doing to me?
"Oh sorry. I will give you your voice back as long as you promise not to scream or cuss." shorty spoke up again.
