"how the fuck did you get a 101%."

and that's how i ended up here. waiting in line. buying ice cream for heeseung and me.

"i still can't believe you got 101% on that test. this is so unfair. and for such a stupid reason as well!" i grumbled as heeseung typed away on his phone.

he just shrugged. "guess i'm just better." he smirked, not once looking up from his phone.

i rolled my eyes, turning my attention back to the long queue infront of us.

earlier

the bell had rung, signalling that school was over, but it wasn't for me.

i quickly marched up to the teachers desk, heeseung following behind me. his demeanour was completely different to mine. his was calm, his bag swung over one shoulder, his walk smooth and graceful.

i, on the other hand, was fuming. how did he get 101%?! it's literally impossible! my moves were rigid and rushed, desperate to get an answer to my question, but also wanting to use this pent up anger somewhere.

"excuse me sir, sorry to bother you, but please could you explain how heeseung got 101% on his test?" i asked in my sweetest voice ever, although deep inside i was seething.

the teacher better have a good explanation otherwise i was going to break something.

"oh yes. his answer was even better than the mark scheme so i decided it wouldn't be fair to just give him full marks." the teacher stated as if it was a known fact.

i felt like throwing a chair at the teacher.

"his answer. better than the mark scheme." i echoed his words, as if trying to process them. but i had heard him correct the first time. "ah okay, thank you." i smiled.

thank god i didn't act on my instincts because if i did, i don't think the school would've wanted to see me EVER again.

what the fuck do you mean his answer was "better than the mark scheme"? YOU CAN'T DO BETTER THAN THE MODEL ANSWER!?

"my pleasure." he said quickly before going back to the task he was concentrating on.

"so..you owe me ice cream." heeseung said smugly.

"shut up."
.
.
.

"i hate physics." i muttered under my breath, remembering what the teacher had said.

the line was dreadfully slow. it seemed as if it would go on forever.

heeseung was still busy as ever on his phone, paying no attention to the masses of people. people seemed to pay attention to him though.

"heeseung. i think those girls over there are checking you out." i said, nudging him. he briefly looked vaguely in the direction before going back to his phone. "obviously. who wouldn't."

"psh, well aren't you humble." i said sarcastically. honestly. how could someone like this guy? just because he's tall and handsome doesn't make him some sort of greek god.

"oh yeah? bet you i can get the girls to pay for our ice cream." he challenged, finally shoving his phone his pocket, his interest piqued at my comment.

"why? are you that offended by my comment?" i asked, folding my arms. free ice cream didn't sound too bad though. "fine, yeah, whatever. go work your magic or something. what are we betting on?"

"you'll see." but before i could even make him tell me he sauntered over to where the girls stood. i quickly lost interest when i saw both the girls swoon over heeseung wink at them.

why did girls have to be so predictable. trust me. you could do so much better than, him.

i was soon nearing the front of the line and heeseung still hadn't returned. could he have lost the bet? i hope so. i've lost too much today, i need a break.

but my prayers were not answered as heeseung swiftly returned next to me, a grin plastered on his face. "what flavour do you want? it's on me. well. technically on the girls. oh and also you lost the bet."

before i could even register what had happened, we reached the front of the queue and quickly ordered, and as heeseung had said, the girls paid for us. although they didn't seem too happy about paying for me.

"so tell me, what do you want now that i lost the bet?" i sighed, annoyed i had lost another thing today.

"well, you need to do something for me." he said in-between licks. heeseung chose strawberry and i chose cookies and cream. clearly he was quite a boring person.

the sun was already setting and the wind was cool against my skin. a shiver ran through my body and i wished i had brought a jacket.

"and that is?" i questioned. what on earth did he want this time?

"well you know how so many girls hit on me everyday? it's incredibly frustrating, especially when i'm trying to study." he started and i just rolled my eyes.

why am i not surprised that he found another chance to talk about how everyone he makes eye contact with instantly wants him.

"so i need you to pretend to be my girlfriend." he quickly finished.

i'm sorry what.

"WHAT!? NO!" i exclaimed, nearly dropping my ice cream on the ground. heeseung quickly shushed me, looking around to make sure no one heard.

"shush! it's not that big a deal! it's only for a month okay? plus you lost the bet so you can't say no." he said, as a matter of fact.

"b-but, why would i want to date you?! go and ask one of your a thousand fangirls, i'm sure they'd be more than happy to accept." i grumbled, concentrating on my ice cream instead.

pretend to date heesueng? i'd rather listen to forks on a chalkboard.

heeseung sighed before responding. "that's exactly why! i can't because then the rest of them will go after her. but you hate me! so it's perfect!" he smiled, acting as if he had just solved world hunger.

i stared blankly at him. "that makes no sense. but fine whatever." i agreed. i knew he would force me to agree no matter what so there was no point in trying to fight it, i was too tired for that.

"but as we do this 'fake dating thing', you have to buy me things! you know. to make it convincing." i quickly ordered. if i was stuck in this mess, i was at least going to get something out of it for myself.

"oh yeah okay, that's true." he agreed without hesitation. "anyways, are we nearly at your house? i need to get home and study."

i realised that we were nearing my neighbourhood. we had walked that far? "we're close, you can leave now if you want, i can get home by myself you know?" i reassured him, concerned he would have to walk home in the dark. was heeseung worried about me? why would he be? he hates me. but why did i feel concerned for him..?

wait. concerned? for heeseung? ew, no. i just, didn't want him to walk home in the dark because someone might steal from him. concerned? no. mildly worried? yes.

"are you sure?" he asked, raising his eyebrow. "i don't want to lose my favourite rival to some vicious gang member. school isn't fun if there isn't someone to beat all the time in tests."

i should've known he wasn't worried. "yeah yeah, go home and study, you need to." i said as i waved him away. "bye heeseung."

"okay then. goodbye fake girlfriend!" he called out, a fair distance already growing between us.
