The beginning of the bond

(Nobody's POV)

It was late at night and all the teens were fast asleep. The stars were shining in the dark night sky and the moon shone with a white glow that lit the streets below, casting eyre shadows on the concrete. As they sleep peacefully, their lives calm before a rumble quakes through the earth. The world was calm, the trees swaying in the breeze, crickets chirping, the cold air lulling everyone to a peaceful sleep. Then a sudden BANG broke the silent sanctuary, making the earth rumble violently. This incident caused the whole world's reality to shift and the nine teenagers' lives will now be forever changed. But for now let's go back and see how their lives are now!

(Thomas POV)

Both me and Nixie are siblings. Nixie was just turning twelve and I was already fourteen. After a long day of school and dealing with people bullying us, we were on our way home. We hoped our mother was home as our father was much, much nicer when she was around. Ever since we were young our father was an alcoholic and was barely ever sober. Whenever he was drunk he was violent and shouted. We usually hid in our room when he was like that but I worried he'd come in and hurt us anyway. When we got home we saw our father and mother arguing so we just went to our room. After going to our room I looked at my sister and said "Nixie, let's run away."

Nixie was shocked to hear this as she had never thought to just run away "But, where will we go? How will we eat? We have to stay, Thomas."

"No, I can't stay here anymore. I have plenty of food and the library is open all day and night. We can stay there" I said as I crossed my arms and gave her a half-serious half-pleading look "Just come with me. Please Nixie."

Nixie thought for a moment as she looked at our room. Our house was a mess. Trash everywhere from the lack of care, beds barely staying together from years of being used and not changed, beer bottles everywhere, some broken from our fathers violent outbursts. Not somewhere teenagers like us should be. After thinking for a few seconds she sighed and said "Okay.... We can leave tomorrow."

"Perfect, I'll make sure everything is packed. You go sleep" I tell her with a nod before going to another room. Nixie takes off her shoes before getting into the torn, stained bed and covering herself with the thin blanket. When she finally falls asleep I come back into the room and sigh "I love you, sister..."

The next day we get into our school uniforms consisting of a navy blue tuxedo like top, white undershirt, navy blue pants for the boys and a navy blue skirt for the girls. We sneak out before our father, who's sleeping on the couch after getting blackout drunk the night before, wakes up. As we walk to school we run into our bullies Jessica, Roman, and Leo "Ohh, look who it is. If it isn't the weak Thomas and Nixie. Let me guess, your father's still a drunk deadbeat? Ha!" Jessica mocks them as Roman and Leo laugh.

"I bet he is! All he does is drink. My dad just bought me a new gaming system" Leo boasts confidently when I suddenly punch him in the face, nearly knocking out his tooth and his nose nearly breaks with a sickening CRUNCH.

"You watch your mouth before I break it" I glare at the three bullies as I clench my fists.

"Y-You're fucking crazy!" Roman shouts before grabbing Leo and Jessica and leaving. Throughout the day the rumor spreads about me hitting Leo but I don't care. As soon as school ends me and Nixie meet up outside of school and start walking home. When we get home we sneak to our bedroom and dump out our school stuff onto the bed.

"We need to fill our bags with stuff we need" I tell Nixie as I grab some clothes and stuff them into my bag. We both pack in silence, putting in clothes, canned food, a hair brush and even taking a can opener and utensils. After we're packed it's already dark, "Come on. Let's get out of this hell hole" I go to the window and climb out, waiting outside for Nixie to follow.

Just as Nixie was halfway through the window our mother walks into the room, "Kids, dinner's do- What are you doing?!" Mother shouts as she goes to grab Nixie but Nixie jumps out of the window and runs with me, knowing it was for the best. We keep running until we reach the library where we stop to rest.

"Come on, Thomas... Let's get warm..." Nixie pulls me along as we go into the library and find a secluded corner to hide away in. We sit there as we catch our breath and dry off from the rain outside "We did it, Thomas... We really did it... We're free..." Nixie says in near disbelief as she relaxes into the bean-bag chair she was in.

"Yeah, we did, Nixie" I look down as I smile a bit "We really did..."
