My name is Julia Walker and I like to think I'm a pretty smart girl. Top of my class at my old school, had straight As, and tons of extra credit, not that any of that work mattered anymore. I had to move and now principal Perry said my extra credit might not transfer over. How is that even possible?
What a great way to start my first day at a new school and now I have to try and find my way around without so much as a map. I sigh, walking out of her office and looking out at the main hallway. This school is much bigger than my old one, on multiple levels too.
"Hey, do you need some help?" I hear someone say behind me. I turn and look up at the slightly taller boy. He smiles a kind smile.
I nod. "Yeah, thanks."
He holds his hand out. "Here, let me see your classes." I hand over my class schedule and watch him study it.
His features are soft and comforting but still manly. His voice too, smooth and youthful. I can feel my cheeks heat up as I watch the guy.
"Chase! I thought you were going to class early." A boy says behind him. He turns around to see a group of students and waves them over.
He hums and looks at me. "I can take you to your first class. We have that class together and a spare. I can get you a map and give it to you after class." I nod before he continues. "Oh! I'm Chase Davenport, by the way. Those are my siblings, Adam, Bree and Leo." He says as the group walks over to us.
I wave at them. "I'm Julia Walker. Nice to meet you all. Wait, Davenport? As in Davenport Industries? As in Donald Davenport?" I ask.
They all laugh. The girl smiles but her older brother speaks up. "Yeah, that's our dad."
"Unfortunately." The girl jokes.
The smallest boy makes a face. "Hey, he's not my dad. Unless he's gonna give me something," He laughs.
I smile watching them banter. "Cool! He's my hero, in terms of how he built his company and the technology he makes."
"Ugh, another fan?" Bree says sarcastically then smiles.
"Yeah, yeah. Come on Julia, I'll show you where our class is." He says lightly guiding me away from his siblings.
I wave behind me as we walk off. "Nice to meet you."
We walk into class and Chase offers the seat next to his, since "No one wants to sit there." His words, not mine.
"Should I be worried that you're secretly annoying?" I joke taking the seat.
He just shrugs as the bell rings. Our classmates file in before the teacher sits down at her desk. Chase's focus is automatically on the teacher. At least I now know he's not a talker during class. He won't distract me, at least not on purpose.
The teacher takes a moment to sort out her things before standing back up. She explains that we have a partner project coming up and she's giving us the session to brainstorm ideas, as she hands out the assignment sheets. "Okay, you may now pair up." She says taking her seat again.
Chase turns to me. "Partner?" He asks smiling.
I shrug. "Sure, why not?"
We put our heads together, not literally, and came up with a project idea quickly. He's surprisingly very smart, maybe even more than me. But that shouldn't be surprising considering who his father is.
We worked out what parts we each worked on and started ploughing through the work, occasionally checking in to make sure our work connected. We get pretty far when the bell goes off.
