The tension in the air was palpable as Marcus, Liam, and Nia stood in the living room, going over their plan for the night. With a solid lead on Kayla's location, they finally felt like they were one step closer to ending her reign of terror.

Nia cradled Amara, rocking the baby gently. "Mi just want dis fi end," she said softly. "Kayla already cause enough pain."

Marcus, checking his firearm, nodded grimly. "Dis ends tonight."

Liam placed a reassuring hand on Nia's shoulder. "We'll find di baby's mother an' bring her back here. Once she safe, we'll deal wid Kayla for good."

Nia's eyes lingered on Amara, her heart heavy with worry. "Be careful," she whispered. "Mi can't lose y'all too."

---

It was late by the time Marcus and Liam arrived at the small, rundown apartment where Kayla's latest hideout was rumored to be. The air was thick with unease, and the faint hum of a television came from a nearby window.

"Yuh sure dis di place?" Liam asked, his voice low.

Marcus nodded. "Di contact said she keeping di mother here. Stay sharp."

The two moved quickly and quietly, their steps muffled by the cracked concrete outside. Reaching the door, Marcus signaled for Liam to cover him. He tried the handle-it was locked. A swift kick later, the door flew open, revealing the dark interior.

The scene inside froze them in their tracks.

---

A woman lay on the floor, her body crumpled and lifeless. Blood pooled beneath her, staining the worn-out carpet. Marcus cursed under his breath, rushing to check her pulse, but it was no use. She was gone.

"Damn it!" Marcus growled, slamming his fist into the wall. "We too late."

Liam scanned the room, his chest tight with anger and guilt. "Kayla," he muttered, his voice cold. "She planned dis. She knew we were coming."

On the table, a folded note caught Marcus's eye. He grabbed it and read aloud:

"You think yuh can outsmart mi? Yuh too slow. Di child is yours now, Liam. Good luck explaining dat to yuh new family."

Liam's jaw tightened as he crumpled the note in his fist. "She doing dis fi spite. Dis nah make no sense."

Marcus shook his head, his expression grim. "It make perfect sense. She trying fi break us, turn us against each other."

"Mi won't let her win," Liam said firmly. "But we need fi take care of dis." He motioned toward the woman's body.

---

Hours later, back at the house, Marcus and Liam broke the news to Nia. She sat in stunned silence, her eyes filling with tears as she held Amara close.

"Her mother..." Nia whispered, her voice cracking. "She dead? Kayla really did dis?"

Liam knelt beside her, his hand resting on her knee. "Mi sorry, Nia. We tried fi save her. But we were too late."

Nia looked down at Amara, her heart breaking for the child who would never know her real mother. "Kayla took everything from her," she said, her voice shaking. "But mi nah let her take one more thing. Amara have a family now. Mi goin' love her like she's mi own."

Marcus crossed his arms, his face a mask of anger and determination. "Kayla crossed a line dis time. Dis nah just about revenge anymore. She need fi pay for what she done."

"An' she will," Liam said, his voice cold. "No more playing defense. We take di fight to her."

---

Later that night, as Nia sat alone with Amara, she thought about everything they'd been through. Her life had been turned upside down, but in the chaos, she found a purpose she never expected. Amara wasn't just a victim of Kayla's cruelty-she was a symbol of resilience, a reason to keep fighting.

Looking down at the sleeping baby, Nia whispered, "Yuh safe now, Amara. No matter what, mi nah let anyone hurt yuh again."

But even as she made her promise, a sense of foreboding lingered. Kayla wasn't done, and Nia knew the battle was far from over.
