Yunjin

A week had passed since Yunjin's return, and while being home was comforting, she couldn't shake the doubts that kept creeping into her mind. What if she'd pushed herself just a little harder? What if she'd stayed longer after practices or sacrificed even more to perfect her skills? Maybe then, the outcome might've been different. These thoughts lingered, casting a shadow on her days, even as she tried to brush them aside.
But there was one bright spot: Y/N. He'd noticed the moments when she seemed lost in thought, and without fail, he'd find a way to cheer her up. Whenever she was moping around the house, he'd show up, somehow knowing just when she needed him. Sometimes they'd curl up together to watch movies, other times he'd whisk her away for spontaneous outings, making her laugh until her sides hurt. It filled her with warmth and lifted her spirits, but the ache from her lingering doubts remained, like a weight she couldn't quite shake off.
Today, though, she was determined to focus on something else. It was game day, and she planned to be there, watching Y/N take the court, alongside his mom and sister. She knew how much it meant to him to have her there, and if nothing else, she wanted to be the one cheering him on from the stands.
After rummaging through her drawer that she'd deemed to be "Jen's Y/N's clothes stash," a smile played on her lips as she pulled out a shirt she'd "borrowed" from one of their sleepovers. It was a black, long-sleeved warm-up shirt he'd worn through his seasons. His last name and number were printed boldly in red, outlined in gold on the back, with their school name, "Niskayuna," across the front in matching colors. Paired with dark jeans and her glasses, it was comfortable but familiar, and a little piece of him she could carry with her to the game.
When she entered the bustling gymnasium with Y/N's mom and sister, the familiar energy of game day washed over her. The buzz of chatter, squeaking sneakers on the hardwood, and the echo of warm-up drills were comforting sounds she'd missed. As they made their way up the bleachers, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. Turning, she spotted Tiffany and Lily, two friends from high school, weaving through the crowd toward her, grins plastered on their faces.
"Well, well," Tiffany teased, eyeing the shirt with a raised eyebrow, "showing up in your boyfriend's clothes and with your future mother-in-law? Really going all out to ward off the competition, huh?"
Yunjin felt her cheeks flush, rolling her eyes playfully. "Oh, please," she shot back, laughing. "It's just his shirt. I'm here to support him, not fend off any fans."
Lily leaned in, smirking as she nudged her. "Sure, sure. But don't think we don't see what you're doing here. You're basically telling every girl here to back off."
Yunjin laughed, shaking her head. "Honestly, if anything, I'm here because I'm the one who got too used to watching him play." She glanced over at the court, watching as Y/N and his teammates finished their layup drills. Her heart swelled with pride, and the doubts that had clung to her earlier seemed to fade in the warmth of the moment.
Just as she settled into her seat, Y/N's sister tugged at her arm. "Did you bring him a good luck charm or something?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with playful curiosity.
Yunjin grinned, giving her a wink. "I am his good luck charm."
Y/N
Y/N took a deep breath as he stretched, moving through the last few warm-up drills. His mind wandered, thoughts drifting to Yunjin. He'd already spoken to both their moms, and he'd decided that after the game, he'd take Yunjin out, planning a small outing to lift her spirits and offer her a break from the things weighing her down.
