Yunjin

3/3/2019

Yunjin was in the midst of an intense training session, her body moving to the beat as sweat dripped down her temples. Each dance step felt like a part of a larger puzzle she was determined to solve. Her breaths came out in short, sharp bursts as she focused on the choreography, repeating it over and over until it felt ingrained in her muscles. The pressure of a potential debut loomed in the back of her mind, fueling her every movement. She wanted—needed—to get this right.

Between sets, Yunjin paused to catch her breath, glancing around the practice room. Her mind wandered to Gaeun. It had been a while since she'd seen her fellow trainee. Gaeun had taken a break to visit her family, but she hadn't returned yet. Yunjin frowned slightly, wondering why Gaeun was still gone. Maybe she's just spending extra time with her family, Yunjin thought, trying to push the worry aside. Gaeun was probably just taking a much-needed break. She deserved it after all the work they'd put in together.

But just as she was about to go back to rehearsing, the door to the practice room swung open. One of the staff members, their face tight with seriousness, called her over. "Yunjin, the general manager wants to see you in the CEO's office."

Yunjin's heart dropped into her stomach. The CEO's office? That was unusual. Trying to calm her racing mind, she nodded, grabbing her water bottle and towel before following the staff member down the hall.

Her heart pounded in her chest as she made her way toward the office. Why was she being called? Had something happened? Her mind raced through possibilities—was it about her performance, her debut? She shook her head, trying to stay positive.

When she entered the CEO's office, the air felt heavy, as if something important was about to happen. The CEO, typically a distant figure who communicated through layers of management, sat at his desk, looking at her with a kind but somber expression. Yunjin swallowed, her nerves intensifying.

"I don't typically deliver this type of news myself," the CEO began, his voice calm but laced with something deeper. "But I figured I'd have to deliver this one."

Yunjin's heart skipped a beat. She clenched her hands together, waiting for whatever was coming.

He continued, his eyes softening with genuine sadness. "Gaeun has decided to leave the company. She's chosen a different path, and as a result, the plans for the debut we had discussed have fallen through."

Yunjin's breath caught in her throat. Her mind went blank for a moment as she processed the words. Gaeun... left? They'd trained together, envisioned their debut together. It didn't feel real. The plans they had built, the debut that seemed so close—it all felt like it was crumbling before her eyes.

"I'm really sorry, Yunjin," the CEO said, his voice filled with sincerity. "This isn't the news you were expecting, and I know how hard you've worked."

Yunjin tried to respond, but her throat felt tight. Her mind raced, thinking of all the hours they had spent, all the dreams they had shared. The uncertainty felt like a heavy weight pressing down on her chest.

The CEO paused before continuing. "That being said, we want to move you to a different label within the HYBE family. You will now be a trainee under Source Music. There are more opportunities for potential debut there, and we believe it's the best path for you."

Yunjin blinked, her emotions swirling. She hadn't expected this. The plans she had known were gone, but this new path—Source Music—it wasn't a dead end. It was a chance. Her chest felt tight, the mixture of relief, sadness, and hope all crashing into her at once.
