The auditorium was huge. The size of it was enough to stun Kurt and I, easily holding thousands of students.
"It is...bigger than I expected," Kurt told me. I only chuckled as he said that. That was when the headmaster of this place, Ozpin, took to the stage.
"I'll...keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge--to hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose – direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." Ozpin had just spoken to the new general student body.
"You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed," the headmasters assistant, Glynda Goodwitch, announced after Ozpin walked away from the mic.
"I suppose that's as much motivation as we're gonna have," I told my new friend.
Time passed as all new would be students were gathered in the ballroom. I laid my sleeping bag down in a mostly empty spot as the light of the broken moon had shined in through the window. Kurt had followed my lead and set up his bag right beside me.
"Well... beside the 'rousing' speech, I would say today was a good day," Kurt told me, "I even heard there was an explosion."
"It would be even better if I knew what else was coming our way," I told him. I heard a commotion coming from a direction. It sounded like someone was fighting with someone else until I heard a voice that was the last thing I wanted to hear.
"What in the world is going on around here?" Schnee. I guess we can't all have happy endings. Especially me. "Don't you realize some of us are trying to sleep."
"What do you think is going on over there?" Kurt asked, referring to the argument that was taking place.
"Dunno," I responded. "Hopefully, they'll settle it before the sun rises, though." That's when the only other light source was put out, and thankfully, any commotion after that was put to a halt.

"Wake up, sleepy butt." I was awoken by the sound of a girl waking her friend up. Caught in the crossfire, I suppose. I looked over to see Kurt fully up and doing calisthenics.
"Good morning, (Y/n). Are you ready for today and whatever it brings?" He asked. Of course, he was a morning person.
"Do I have any choice in the matter?" I asked, not really looking for an answer. I got up, got dressed, and we headed for breakfast. We sat down with Kurt right next to me pancakes were on the menu, and they tasted like what you would expect from school quality food. Nothing special. A girl sat in front of us. She had purple hair with purple eyeliner.
"Someone sitting here?" She asked.
"There is now." I told her and got a smile in return.
"Hi, my name is Kurt Wagner. This is mein freund, (Y/n) Rasputin," Kurt said, reaching out for a handshake, seeing the opportunity to make a new friend. She responded with a smile and a hand meeting his
"Betsy Braddock," she said. "You know I hear we're put in teams. In this sea of freshmen, what are the odds that we end up thrown together?"
"Slim to moderate," I told her. We talked, laughed, and she told us that she was from Atlas. Can't wait to see how the stiff Atlas kid does in a real fight. After that, we said our goodbyes, and Kurt and I went to our assigned lockers. I opened mine and took out my claws. Kurt came back over to me with dual sabers in hand.
"All first year students, please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation,"
"You go ahead. I still have a few things to grab," I told him. He nodded and headed for the cliff. I grabbed a few dust crystals, closed my locker door, and was bumped into by a couple of girls. One of them had a yellow long coat on with sunglasses in a more square design. And the other one was the one and only Weiss Schnee.
"Um, excuse me. You're in the way." I looked her up and down with a look of contempt and said the first thing that came to my head.
"You don't belong here."
"Excuse me?!" She asked, not believing what I told her.
"Huntsmen, have a job that puts their lives in danger. It's hard to believe a Schnee would do that willingly." She stood there mouth agape and struggling to find her words until she did.
"How dare you! Do you know who you're talking to?" I answered that quite easily.
"A stuck-up heiress whose father's business practices borderline on the inhumane," I told her. "Also, you may have been trained to fight, but that's just it. I doubt that there's any real-world experience to back you up." Her face contorted more and more to one of fury.
"You don't even know me."
"And I hope that I don't have to,"I said and turned to leave. Did I feel good about what I said? Well, I won't say no. I then met with the other students with Ozpin and Goodwitch in front of us while we were all standing on metal pads.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors. Today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest,"Ozpin told us while Goodwitch continued.
"Now, I'm sure you've all heard rumors of the assignment of teams. Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates. Today."
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon, so it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well. That being said. The first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." No pressure, I suppose.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet the opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path, or you will die. You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. Find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will guard that item as well as your standing and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" Ozpin asked. Then, a blonde boy raised his hand to ask one. "Good, now, take your position."
I took a low position and waited. Looking over to Kurt, he took a more straight and upright position. It was almost like I was looking at a circus acrobat. He was then flung into the air, and as he somersaulted, it came to me. I overheard the blonde kid asking how we were gonna get there. 'Fwoosh' like a missile, I was soaring through the air, seeing wherever I could land.
