A D I T I
“Aalo Paratha with extra filling. Right, Papa?” I smiled, turning towards my father as he looked at me. He’s wearing a cotton shirt and shorts. “I’ll prepare three for you.” Mumma says, she is talking with someone while her phone stays in between her ear and her shoulder.
“What about me?” Papa asked, slightly upset and I looked at mum hoping for some cute bickering between the two but she simply smiled at him. “You'll have normal chapatti and yes, no potato.” The aroma of sizzling spices enveloping me like a warm hug and that urge to sneak some spicy filling takes over me.
“No, I talked to Raanvi this morning…” Mumma says talking to I don't know whom as she turned her heels and walked inside the kitchen. “Papa?” I say, my hands are on the dining table as I think of a plan. “Yes?”
“I’ll give you one Aalo paratha and in return you allow me to go on a trip. I promise to call you every four hours. I’ll also share my GPS.” I said in one go. Papa isn't a fool and convincing him is a task especially when my sister isn't here to help.
Papa raised an eyebrow, his expression serious that I can hear my heart beat faster as If today is the result day. “One Aalo paratha for a trip? You think that's a fair trade, beta?” he asked, his tone playful but firm. Despite the playful tone, I can sense THE Virendra Shekhawat who has never allowed his daughter to go on a trip but this time I want to.
I took a deep breath and tried to negotiate. "Well, actually, it's two Aalo parathas, and I assure you nothing will happen. And I’ll do video calls too.” This video call part was a lie, well I’ll do it on the first day but after that I'll simply say ‘network issues’.
Papa chuckled. “You think you're trying to bribe me, beta. I’ve worked as a national level boxer champion. A lot of times my competitor would try to bribe me but I would decline it. So what do you learn from that?” He asked and I nod awkwardly.
“That you're….loyal?” I completed my sentence. “You're a clever one, beta. But I'm not sure if one Aalo paratha is enough for a trip. What makes you think you can convince me with your charming smile and cuteness?” I chuckled shifting my chair towards him as I kept my head on my bicep. “You are my cute papa, my sweet sweet papa. I love you more than anyone so please allow me to…go..”
Papa laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he kissed my head. “Oh, you're a smooth talker, but if you think convincing me is easy then you’re wrong, although” he added, his voice softening, “I do love your talks.” I sat straight while mumma stepped outside.
“But, I won't let you go on a trip and that's final.” He said and stood up from his chair. It's not as easy as it looks and perhaps now I have—
“Aditi! Are you in there?” I opened my eyes. The aroma of Lily reached my nose filling my lungs as I looked around all confused. I am sitting in my bathtub, Cigarette after sex playing in the speaker while my naked body is covered with a layer of bath foam.
