Episode 11: "The Unbroken Chord"

The night after the encounter with Jung Seok felt endless, stretching on like the ever-present hum of the cursed song in the back of their minds. Ju Ha had barely slept, lying in bed with his eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, listening to the rhythm of his own heart, which seemed to sync with the haunting notes that refused to leave.

Do Yoon, too, had not found peace. The moment he closed his eyes, it was there, not in the form of an echo, but a living thing, alive and thrumming beneath his skin. The song didn't just play in his ears—it felt like it was in his veins, pulsing through his blood, reminding him that it was always there, always waiting.

The next morning, as the weak sunlight filtered through their dormitory windows, Do Yoon and Ju Ha found themselves in the same uneasy silence, neither of them daring to speak of what had happened the night before. The silence between them was heavy, but it wasn't the kind of silence they could easily ignore. It was thick with an unspoken understanding.

Ju Ha ran his hand through his hair, his expression drawn tight. "We need to talk about last night," he said, his voice unusually quiet.

Do Yoon met his gaze, and for a moment, the distance between them felt miles wide. "I know," he whispered, his voice sounding raw even to his own ears.

Ju Ha's eyes softened, just for a moment, before his jaw tightened again. "Jung Seok... he said the music is inside us now. That we can't escape it. But we have to find a way out, Do Yoon. We have to."

Do Yoon nodded slowly, but the weight of Ju Ha's words only made the knot in his chest grow tighter. Escape. Could they really escape this? Could they somehow sever the invisible thread that had wound itself around them, around their lives, their thoughts?

"What if we can't?" Do Yoon asked, the fear in his voice betraying him. "What if it's too late?"

Ju Ha looked at him, eyes unwavering. "Then we fight. Together."

The words hung between them, heavy and tentative. Do Yoon could feel the sincerity in Ju Ha's voice, but there was something else there, something that he couldn't ignore. It wasn't just the will to fight. There was an underlying promise in those words, a bond between them that felt like more than just shared terror. They had been through so much together already—so much that nothing felt like it could break them.

Before Do Yoon could respond, the hum returned. It wasn't a distant sound anymore. It was right there, pressing against his ears, vibrating in the air. It had become part of the space they were in. A part of the room. A part of them.

The piano in the corner, which had been silent for the entire morning, seemed to almost vibrate with energy. It was waiting.

Do Yoon closed his eyes, shaking his head, as though trying to block out the irritating pull of the music. But the sound was relentless.

"Do you hear it?" he whispered, his voice shaky.

Ju Ha nodded, his face pale. He stood frozen for a moment, his hands twitching at his sides, as though he wanted to do something—anything—to stop the noise. But there was nothing they could do. The music was already inside them.

"We have to face it, don't we?" Do Yoon said softly, his voice almost hollow. "We have to play it."

Ju Ha's expression was pained, but he nodded. "I don't want to, but... if it's the only way to stop it..."

They both knew what that meant. The music would never let them go. The song had become an unbreakable bond. And to face it, to truly stop it, they would have to play again.

With hesitant steps, they moved toward the piano.

The moment their fingers touched the keys, the world around them seemed to shift.

The air thickened, the sound of the music growing louder and more insistent, a relentless presence. The keys moved under their fingers, as though possessed by the song, their hands guided by something outside of themselves. They were no longer in control. It was the music, the song — and it was in charge now.

"Hyung..." Do Yoon whispered, his voice breaking through the chaos. "I... I can't stop it. It's too strong."

Ju Ha's eyes met his, filled with frustration, fear, but also something else — a deep, unspoken understanding. Without speaking, they moved in perfect sync, their hands and hearts responding to the music that was both their curse and their salvation. They had no choice now but to play, as though their bodies had been made for this.

It was as if their very souls were bound to the song.

The music swelled, rising and falling in waves. It was beautiful, but unnervingly familiar, like something they'd heard before, in a dream or a memory long forgotten. A ghostly melody, haunting and perfect.

"Ju Ha, do you feel it?" Do Yoon asked, his fingers trembling against the keys. "It's like we're... one with the song."

Ju Ha didn't answer. His eyes were locked on Do Yoon, his face pale, his lips parted as he took in a deep breath, barely able to catch it. They were both so deep in the music now that everything else faded away—the world, the room, the curse. It was just them and the melody. Their bond was tight, stronger than it had ever been before.

Stronger than just the music.

"Hyung..." Do Yoon said again, his voice softer, more vulnerable this time. His hand reached out for Ju Ha's. Their fingers brushed — a gentle, fleeting contact, but it felt like a promise.

"Do Yoon," Ju Ha whispered, his voice hoarse. "I'm scared."

It wasn't the music he was afraid of, though. Not anymore. The true fear in his heart was something else altogether.

"Me too," Do Yoon admitted, his voice low. But as he spoke, he felt something shift. It wasn't the curse, the song, or the terror. It was something closer. Something that had been there all along. A feeling he hadn't dared to name before.

Their fingers still touched, and it felt like the world was holding its breath. In that moment, the song was both their curse and their bond — and for the first time since this began, Do Yoon wasn't sure if he was afraid of the music anymore. He was afraid of losing Ju Ha.

The piano's keys rippled with another note — high and sharp, as if asking them to make a choice.

Do Yoon's eyes met Ju Ha's, and everything else faded. There was just the sound. The music. And each other.
