Episode 20: "The Breaking Point"
The music hall had grown unbearably still, yet the air hummed with a tension that felt almost like an electric charge. The figure—the one who had claimed to be the keeper of the curse—was gone, but its words still echoed in the depths of Do Yoon's mind.
"The curse never ends. It only transfers."
The thought clung to him like a shadow, and he couldn't shake it. He had come here to find answers, to put an end to the horror that had haunted the old music hall, but now he wasn't sure what was real anymore. Was there even a way out of this? Or were they doomed to carry the curse forever?
Ju Ha stood beside him, his expression hard, but Do Yoon could see the worry beneath the surface. Even Ju Ha, the one who had always exuded confidence, was starting to show signs of doubt.
"Hyung..." Do Yoon's voice was quiet, barely above a whisper. He hesitated, unsure how to voice the swirling thoughts in his mind. "What if... What if we can't break it? What if this is all just... too much?"
Ju Ha turned toward him, his eyes softening. There was no fear in his gaze, only a steady resolve, the same strength that had guided them through every challenge they had faced together.
"You're not alone in this, Do Yoon," Ju Ha said firmly, his voice steady. "Whatever it takes, we're going to face it together. I promise you that."
But even as he spoke, a part of Ju Ha's expression darkened, as if the weight of the situation was finally catching up to him. The music was still in the air, still vibrating beneath the floor, resonating through their bones. It was a constant reminder of the curse that had woven itself into their lives, and now it felt like it was waiting for them to fail.
"I know," Do Yoon replied, his voice barely above a whisper. He turned to Ju Ha, his gaze lingering on his hyung's face for just a moment longer than necessary, as if seeking reassurance. Ju Ha smiled faintly, but it didn't reach his eyes.
"I don't want to lose you," Do Yoon confessed before he could stop himself. The words slipped out, raw and unguarded, and for a moment, there was nothing but the weight of the unspoken truth between them.
Ju Ha blinked, clearly taken aback by the confession, his mouth opening and closing as if he were searching for the right words.
"Do Yoon..." Ju Ha's voice was low, and it sounded almost like a plea. But then, the sound of the piano—the melody—interrupted them.
It wasn't the hum of the cursed song this time, but an entirely new melody, one that seemed to call out to them, to their very souls. It was distant at first, faint, like a whisper on the wind. But as they stood there, frozen, the notes grew louder, closer.
"We need to find it," Ju Ha said, pulling his hand away from Do Yoon's shoulder, his expression resolute again. "We need to find the key. The source. The heart of the music."
Do Yoon nodded, although the gnawing fear inside him refused to abate. The piano—it was always the piano. They had to get closer to it, but every step felt like they were walking deeper into the heart of the curse, into the very thing that was trying to claim them both.
The room seemed to twist, the walls closing in, the air thick with the weight of unseen eyes watching them. The music—the cursed melody—was growing louder, clearer. And with each passing second, the presence of the building grew more oppressive.
"I don't know if we can do this, Ju Ha," Do Yoon admitted, his voice trembling as they slowly approached the piano. His footsteps felt heavier with each movement, his body weighed down by something unseen.
Ju Ha turned to him, his expression softening once more. There was no more anger, no more doubt. Just a quiet, steady resolve. "We can. We have to."
Do Yoon swallowed hard, his gaze locking with Ju Ha's. "What if we can't break the curse? What if we... end up losing each other?"
Ju Ha's hand found Do Yoon's, squeezing it tightly. For a brief moment, the world seemed to fall away, and all that mattered was the warmth of Ju Ha's hand in his. The tension that had been suffocating them slowly eased.
"Whatever happens," Ju Ha said, his voice quiet but resolute, "I'm not leaving you. We'll face this together."
And then, without another word, Ju Ha reached out and pressed his fingers to the piano keys.
The moment his fingers made contact with the keys, the music shifted again. The haunting, eerie melody that had been swirling around them suddenly grew louder, faster. The air was thick with its pulse, its rhythm pushing them forward, forcing them to move, to listen, to play along.
Do Yoon's heart raced, his breathing quickening as the music wrapped itself around him, tightening like a vice. It wasn't just in the room anymore. It was inside him.
The keys began to play, their own accord, the same melody they had heard before—the Devil's Chord. But this time, there was something different. The music was pulling at them, binding them to it, to the very soul of the building. It was no longer just a curse; it was a living thing, a force with its own will, its own hunger.
"Hyung—" Do Yoon gasped, his fingers trembling as he reached out toward the piano. The music was vibrating through his body now, his chest heavy with the weight of the song.
Ju Ha turned to him, his face tight with determination. "Don't stop," he said urgently. "We're so close. We have to break it."
Do Yoon nodded, but his hands were shaking. The song—the cursed melody—was trying to consume them, to pull them into its dark heart. The hum in the air grew louder, more insistent, like it was alive. He could feel it, in his chest, in his soul.
Suddenly, the room shifted.
The walls seemed to blur, and before them stood an image—a vision. The figure from before, standing tall and imposing, its eyes glowing with that same unnatural light. But this time, there was something new. A woman—her face was familiar, though Do Yoon couldn't place it. She stood beside the figure, her eyes filled with sorrow, with regret.
"Do you think you can break the song?" the figure asked, its voice sharp, mocking. "The music is a part of you now. It is in your blood, in your heart. It has chosen you."
Ju Ha stepped forward, his hand tightening on the piano keys. "We won't stop," he said, his voice steady despite the overwhelming fear that was clawing at him from within. "We will break it. We will end this. Together."
The woman looked at them, her expression filled with something that resembled pity. "There is no escaping the music," she said softly. "The heart of the curse is in the song. And it will always find you."
Before they could respond, the vision faded, leaving them standing in the music hall once again, the oppressive weight of the building pressing down on them.
The piano stopped.
The hum stopped.
Everything was still.
But Do Yoon knew, deep in his heart, that this was far from over.
They had come so close to the heart of the curse, to the key that might finally unlock its power. But the price? It was something neither of them were ready to face.
