The Gray Meetings

The boys had accepted the invitation to see their mums new house under the guise of a house warming party.

They were really there to discuss Grace, Tommy's expansion and their future as a family. David and Devlin were walking in knowing their mother wanted them as allies for the Shelby /Grey business expansions.

Both men walked through the narrow entrance, heavy footsteps announcing their presence before the petite young maid announced them verbally.

Polly's living room was decorated in lush red velvets, creamy lace and white ceramics. Bold and sassy just like her. Devlin smiled at all the warmth.

"Thank you Veronica, if you wouldn't mind fetching the tea now I'd appreciate it." Their mum slowly turned around gracing them with a beautiful wide smile. Both men grinned back. She was still full of life and warmth the way they had originally remembered her. She looked happier, more radiant and it showed Just by getting out of the city was having a positive impact on her from the inside out. It was a good look for Polly Gray.

"I missed the sound of manly footsteps. Men don't walk like women, they walk with heavy confident strides like they need you to know they have arrived." She grinned at her two tall handsome boys. She crossed around the table and gave them each a big hug crushing them into her like she was memorizing how they felt as small boys in her arms. Still as squirmy as ever.

"I'm not walking on my tip toes mom." Devlin, even the cheeky one, always needed to make jokes to break the mood. She knew upon her first meeting with him since he'd been a child, that he hated serious moments. They made him uncomfortable.

David didn't handle stress well but seemed to be far more domestic.

Night and day.

"It was a compliment, Devlin, one day you'll learn how to take one." Polly playfully snapped back, still wearing a smile to show she wasn't that serious about her comment.

"Hahaha, Dev, good luck with that." David snarked back. Polly rolled her eyes and huffed. They could never meet the three of them without one of her boys taking a shot at the other. It wasn't like with John and them, this was below the belt sibling rivalry. She wished one day her boys would get on like the Shelby men. She doubted it though.

Hey, I ugh, brought you this." David said bashfully, handing his excited mother a brightly wrapped box . Red and blue polka dots arranged artfully across the paper and it was tied with a dark blue velvet ribbon. Peggy had said his mom would find a use for the ribbon either on her hair out around her neck. David had loved the thought of his mother wearing it to show off that he'd done something for her and he loved Peggy for the idea. He hoped she wore it infront of Devlin.

"What is it?" Polly asked as she gently took the package and placed it on her table. She wandered over to the little desk near the window and took out a silver letter opener. He chuckled and his chest puffed out at her usefulness to open the gift so gently. He had gotten that trait from her.

"Peggy went shopping for a housewarming gift." Davis was proud as a peacock not even his brother could ruin the moment. His eyes danced as she slowly opened the box to pull out the prize. Her gasp and tear glistened eye did him in.

" I love it so much!." He could hear the struggle in her voice to speak. She was almost speechless. He'd have to give Peggy extra kisses tonight, maybe a new diamond. She'd done well.

"Hey, I brought a gift too! Mine is actually good." Devlin couldn't be undone in competition with his brother. "Suck up." He added earning a sharp eyebrow arch in warning from his mother.
