The low rumble of machinery filled the underground workshop as Mechanica's defenders worked tirelessly. The atmosphere was charged with a sense of urgency that matched the ever - present danger looming over them. Clara moved carefully through the bustling space, her fingers trailing over the cold metal of unfinished constructs and tools scattered across workbenches. She paused, her gaze drawn to the sight of Tobias working on a large defensive turret, his brow furrowed in concentration.

- You're really giving that thing everything you've got, aren't you? - Clara called out, her voice cutting through the metallic clamor of the workshop.

Tobias looked up, his lips twitching into a weary smile. - Someone has to. If the faction comes again, we can't afford any weak spots. Every bolt has to be perfect.

Clara nodded, her eyes moving over the turret. She could see how much effort Tobias had put into its construction - the polished plates, the carefully aligned components. - It looks like it'll do the job. But you need a break, Tobias. You've been at this for hours.

Tobias wiped his forehead with the back of his hand, leaving a streak of oil. - Could say the same for you, Clara. I'm not the only one pushing past limits here.

Clara gave a soft laugh, though there was exhaustion in her eyes. - I guess neither of us knows how to quit when there's work to do.

Tobias put down his wrench and leaned against the turret, his expression softening. - It's just... every time I think about what could happen if we aren't ready, it keeps me going. I don't want to see anyone else get hurt.

Clara moved closer, her hand resting gently on his shoulder. - I know, Tobias. We're all scared. But we're doing everything we can, and that has to count for something. You've been a rock for everyone here. We're going to get through this.

Tobias sighed, his eyes searching hers for a moment before nodding. - You always know how to put it into perspective, Clara. I don't know what we'd do without you.

- You'd keep going, same as always - Clara said, a smile tugging at her lips. - But thanks. Now, how about we finish this together? I'll help you with the rest.

Tobias hesitated for a second, then returned her smile. - Alright. Let's get it done.

They worked side by side, the rhythmic clang of metal echoing through the workshop. Clara found solace in the familiar routine, the steady pace of their work calming her nerves. Tobias's presence beside her felt like a reminder that she wasn't in this fight alone - none of them were. Together, they focused on finishing the turret, their hands moving in sync as they tightened bolts and adjusted mechanisms.

The door to the workshop creaked open, and Victor entered, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Clara and Tobias. He approached them, his footsteps muffled by the din of machinery.

- I knew I'd find you two down here - Victor said, a mixture of amusement and exasperation in his tone. - You really need to take a break.

- Almost done - Clara replied, her fingers working deftly as she finished tightening a bolt. - We just want to make sure everything's perfect.

Victor shook his head, though there was a fondness in his gaze. - I get it, but you both need to rest. We can't afford to have anyone burned out.

Tobias straightened, stepping back from the turret with a sigh. - Alright, alright. We'll take a break. Just as soon as we get this last piece in place.

Victor stepped closer, inspecting the turret. - This thing looks impressive. If it works as well as it looks, it'll be a big help.

- It will - Tobias said, a note of pride in his voice. - We're going to make sure Mechanica stands strong.
