The sky was a dull, steel gray as the wind carried the chill of the impending storm over the barren fields surrounding the settlement. Clara adjusted the collar of her jacket, her eyes fixed on the horizon where dark clouds gathered, hinting at the tumultuous days ahead. She could feel the tension in the air, and it wasn't just from the weather. With Elara's warning still fresh in her mind, there was an urgency gnawing at her—they needed to act, and fast.

Tobias was speaking with Victor near one of the barricades, their voices low but intense. Clara made her way over to them, her boots crunching over the dry earth. Victor glanced up as she approached, his eyes weary but sharp.

- We've got less time than I thought - Victor said, running a hand through his hair. - If what Elara says is true, we need to get these defenses ready now. We're vulnerable here.

- We'll manage - Clara replied, her tone firm. - We have to. If we panic, it's only going to make things worse. The people here need to see us confident, like we have everything under control.

Tobias nodded, his gaze moving between them. - We've got enough hands to start reinforcing the barriers. I was thinking we could also set up a few more traps along the outskirts—make it harder for anyone to get close without us knowing.

Victor seemed to consider it, then gave a curt nod. - It's a good plan. We'll need every advantage we can get. The faction will come at us with everything they have, and we need to be ready to meet them head-on.

Clara looked past Victor, watching as people moved about the settlement—men and women carrying supplies, children peeking out from doorways, their eyes wide with curiosity and fear. It hurt to see their fear, knowing they were counting on them for protection. She felt a hand on her arm, and she turned to see Tobias watching her, his expression softening.

- You alright? - he asked quietly.

Clara forced a small smile. - I'm fine. Just... thinking. There's a lot riding on this, and it feels like we're running out of time.

Tobias squeezed her arm gently. - We've faced worse odds before. We're not giving up now.

Victor cleared his throat, his eyes narrowing as he looked towards the edge of the settlement. - Someone's coming.

Clara followed his gaze, her eyes widening slightly as she saw a figure approaching, their pace quick and purposeful. It was a young man, his clothes dusty and his face flushed from exertion. He looked barely older than Tomas, and Clara's heart sank at the sight of his anxious expression.

- You need to help - the young man said, his voice breathless as he reached them. - There's trouble. My father... they took him.

Clara frowned, stepping closer. - Slow down. Who took your father?

The young man struggled to catch his breath, his eyes wide with fear. - The faction. They came to our farm—said he was hiding supplies from them. They dragged him away. I... I didn't know where else to go.

Tobias exchanged a glance with Victor, then looked at Clara. - We can't let the faction just take people. If they think they can do that without consequences, it's going to make everything worse.

Clara nodded, her jaw set in determination. - We're going to get him back. What's your name? Where's your farm?

- Liam - the young man said, his voice trembling. - It's just a few miles north of here. Please, you have to hurry. I'm afraid of what they'll do to him.

Victor looked at Clara and Tobias, his expression grim. - We need to move fast, but we can't leave the settlement undefended. Clara, you and Tobias go. I'll stay here and keep things running.
