In a valley within the Groronto Highlands There is a city wrapped around the Groronto Basin. A city of large domed roofs Lit by a bright blue miniature sun in the sky Driving back the darkness. In the residential district, A place of large buildings with blue roofs and lamp posts, each shining their own blue light Caused by a miniature of the larger Synthetic sun in the sky.
its cobblestone streets Shined with the last days ran, one of streets is named red way. And part way down this residential street is the simple but elegant house. The household of the storm family, an Intelligent and Well respected family of 4. Only one of which was in the house at this time. The father Andrew storm He was the continuing Project assigned to him Treating a military application to new airplane technology. At the Revival Sorcery Headquarters the Mother one Elizabeth storm She was of the pack of order with The power of Gravity Manipulation And Blaze magic. How much is not with them The Story begins but with Jackson storm and his twin Brother William storm.
The artificial sun Made by a combination of Magic and Technology Was bright in the sky. Of course it was always bright. Light was life in ethrow or the dark lands to be Specific. Jackson moved through the streets quickly Not wanting to be late to the last day Of class at the Academy. Although his feet moved quickly His mind was in a nervous Loop With the all important test coming.
...He arrived at the lodge domed Academy building. Weaving through the gardens and Barely giving a glance To the Guards from "the education". On the left wing of the building Was his classroom. He liked it this year, Windows Giving a look at the grasslands beyond the plateau. The land in between the sunlight City and the Darkness was Named setting lands Because it always looked like the Artificial sun was sitting.
" Late again Mr Jackson " Said professor Baker Looking at Jackson's untidy Blue uniform With the gold trim.
"Sorry professor it Won't happen again" said Jackson with a smirk
Smiling, the professor said " Please take a seat now " As Jackson sat down The professor continued talking about what they should expect For the test. This was absorbed Considering the fact That everybody knew about the test and the tower. It was just one of those basic things, Like how gravity worked. Jackson spent the time daydreaming About how after he passed the test He was going to become a knight. He was certain of it. And as for not paying attention His Twin brother Aaron Would do enough for both of them Assuming he was Getting the same lecture. Which he probably was Considering how "the Education" Operated
It was time for lunch. Fresh fruit and vegetables Along with chicken and Fresh bread.
After lunch Professor Baker Began talking about something actually important: How many blades for available all 12 Kids in the Class Listened intently ( Every class having 12 One for each day of the week And Counting the teacher That was one for each Month ). Jackson was disappointed to hear That there would only be one. The most physically adept Of those who passed the test Will be given the option to train his Knights Then only one would be selected to become one The others being padded on the back And made pinkertonCaptain's or Enforces for "the Education ''. The professor reminded them again "You either pass or fail You're either bright or a not . It's just a measure of intelligence To see if you're smart enough to vote. Very few jobs are Attached to Whether you pass or fail ''.
Jackson didn't quite understand What mathematics, Science And understanding glyphs Had to do with whether or not you were intelligent enough to vote. But he probably wasn't smart enough but yet Here on that in universities He told himself. After all, the enlightened nation was by far the best. Yes it was not perfect But it was not like the empire And it was not like the coalition It was an intelligent Nation. He did not come up with those thoughts himself. It was what you were told to think By "the education" But he did not truly Wonder If the test was right or wrong Not yet at least.
Eventually the day came to an end. The monorail Crossed overhead with a zoom As Aaron Waited for Jackson Outside of the academy. Aaron's hair was combed back. He looked intelligent in his crisp Uniform. his blue eyes was a Shade more green And he and Jackson had different face structures And different personalities But nevertheless They wear twins. Like everyone as the test approached Aaron was nervous Which motivated him to study harder.
Finally Jackson arrived " Have fun waiting " Jackson said teasingly Printing out how he was on time to the scheduled meeting, Aaron was early. Smiling Aaron said "Yes in fact I did the monorail past Bye" Said Aaron. The two of them Began walking home. They did not walk together to school Because Aaron came early for Extra study hall. They arrived at their house With its Blue Roof with green accents And wooden Interior. The place had faded paint But it was home.
Mother and father were sitting in the dining room Having taken the day off For the occasion. Aaron suspected they probably went out for lunch Also Wear they were at University.
" Have a good day at school " Their mother said kindly
" Excellent They really do a beautiful job preparing us for the test " Said Aaron
" Lots of babbling about things they were telling us since we were Toddlers " Added Jackson.
" Jackson" Aaron said elbowing him Jackson was technically right. But a statement like that could be seen As being against "the education".
Standing up Father said " You too think you're ready for the test " He was pointedly looking at Jackson.
" Yes of course we are dad" said Jackson.
" Everyone thinks that But 80% of people fail the test And I don't want to see my children being nots."
" We will Strive to exceed Father, " Said Aaron.
After that Aaron in Jackson went into their rooms to study. Aaron focused on mathematics But was his weakest subject Memorizing, studying, reading, Taking notes And memorizing notes. And then he moved on to philosophy And morality Aaron always trying to do the right thing But what was the right thing. What is the difference between right and wrong? These questions both terrified And fascinated him. Terrified Because what if he was wrong Fascinated Because Of his desire To be right.
But an hour later their mother arrived. Shortly after that they sat down for supper, it was Mushroom soup, Bread and Nuts the bread was a Welcomed Luxury.
" So how is your project going? William said ponting a Spoon as a father.
" Very good, but I have to say it has Become too projects one to drop the bombs and one to defined the first one from Attack" He Responded.
" You think Demonbloods Might attack the airplanes? " said Jackson " A Fascination in his voice.
" not in the enlightened Nation but in Burnthorne a demonblood attempted to assassinate One of their Guild leaders This morning. And keep that Fascination out of your voice only good demonblood Is a Dead one we in the "Enlightened Nation are smart enough to know that!" " Said father In the end Of his statement Repeating a phrase drilled into all of them by the education.
" He would have gotten away with it if one of our people. a Sun runner on Less, The one that we sent to keep their little red star going" said mother. Sun runners wore the rarest order of the Revival Sorcery.
" Who was it " Asked William.
" it was bell " said mother.
" Isn't she the only Female sun runner? " Asked William.
" Yes, she is, " Responded mother.
Not letting the conversation die down father said " so You two are ready for the test "
Was Jackson ready for the test? Most people didn't pass but He was studying all his life. Of course he couldn't fail the test. So he responded " Of course we're ready to pass The test ". He said it right after William.
" You better, " father said. an urgency to his voice He worried that the boys did not understand What would happen if they Did not pass the test.
And so the day did end.
It was almost time To go to bed, Jackson and Edward wore each and their own rooms. Dad knocked On Jackson's door, " Come in, come in, Jackson said excited ". Jackson's dad was a tall black haired man with kind features, With intelligent green eyes. Came into the cluttered room. " Jackson, I want to show you what I've been working on ". Jackson and Andrew both know Andrew's project was top secret But Jackson was excited to figure out what the strange top secret thing was, And after all family was family He wasn't going to Spill the Beans. As they went down to the Basement Andrew's father said in a conspiratorial tone " Now don't tell anybody about this including your brothers and mother Do you understand "
" Yes, yes I do, " Jackson said, smiling. " " good, good, " Jackson's father said, smiling. Jackson's father took him down to the basement. Down the familial wooden stairs. To the workshop's many tables. The walls were covered with pictures of Airplanes An expensive curiosity Not very practical and Jackson's mind. " To see what we're trying to do Is develop a more practical use for airplanes Along with them Making more practical and more useful as a whole, Specifically while trying to find military application And having them drop Explosives And have machine guns in the Nose " Jackson's Dad explained.
" And What is this? " Jackson said, pointing to a metal cylindrical object. Glittering in the blue light of the room.
" Be careful there you wouldn't want it to blow up, It is one of the explosives This particular one throws out burning chemicals ". Jackson's dad explained.
" Why would we ever need that? " Jackson asked.
" Mostly as a deterrent, To prevent Another rebellion Like the one that happened 20 years ago, Something like that will help Ensure peace and our time " Jackson's dad explained.
" Now enough of that. Now that I showed you go out and go off to bed ". At this point Jackson was Exhausted Having spent the day at the Academy studying for the test. So he did what his Father had told him and Went up to his room, and it did not Take long for him to fall asleep.
