The city of Burnthorne Was Like A graveyard, At least Dave Freeman Always thought so. Black smoke from the industrial district Loomed like death itself over the city. It was constantly suffocating, dark all around. Dave was 16 and trying Desperately to Keep out of The life of a factory Worker. But more and more that Unfortunately fate Became inevitable. He is an average boy from the city trying to keep out of the factory Like the other boys. He had Black hair and green Eyes Like the rest and did not become Something far different from Any other boy of burnthorne Until that fateful day. The day after the attempt on the life of the Forge master begon Like any other. A Thick fog over the city Making the darkness even deeper. He lived with his dad Roger Freeman, brother Rob Freeman and Cousin Dan freeman. all of which Have already been sentenced to the Industrial District rob and dan in the factory and dad as an Elevator operator, The same elevator operator Who was held at the point of mysterious Magic and Forced to take the Assassins to the top floor. There was a difference between this day and other days dad was not there he was Imprisoned for Treason. And Five years previous mom Died of Dolor Magnus or It's common name Mighty Pain. A gloomy day for a gloomy mood Thought daved. He got drest in an Old but Clean short and trouser. The one Nice thing they had was the Suit the Council Issued dad to wear working doing the Elevator operator work. Thinking of this Dave Put on his cap and headed out To sell newspapers. There were many newspaper companies, each one part of the newspaper guild. He went to the building Of the one he usually works for and it was Closed with the windows boarded up. He went from building to building. Each one was boarded up. That was so strange I began to suspect Foul Play. Each building appeared abandoned. And even haunted with the tall Gothic architecture And the windows and doors boarded up. He was here just yesterday and all Seemed ordinary but Now all Seemed extra ordinary. Red light going through the broken windows Of the ramshackle Hut. he moved to the door And said " The shadow Rises at midnight In the land of the blood Sun ". Giving the correct code word. The Voice came from the other side of the door " What song are you singing ". Don Responded by saying the proper code phrase " A song Long forgotten by Children of Yesterday's future ". The door opened A crack. It did not squeak, they kept this old door well oiled, And dropped a Pile of paper, With one silver piece, One more day of life. He went back to Hanging out In the neighborhood As his friend Zak Did the same exchange at the door. After they both had the pile of newspapers. They went out and began Leaving them at doorsteps. What did the papers contain you may ask, It was an Anti Revival Sorcery Newspaper Named "Truth not to be forgotten". The two of them did their work separately but were too close to stay together at the same time.
As the two moved through the City Dodging past inquisitor After inquisitor The amount of members of the Inquisition out that day was disturbing. With the regular newspaper routes being shut down and The Inquisition being on Garde and his father being In the dungeon They will both be very jumpy. But Despite their best efforts the two boy's they got caught.
As they turned the corner Effectively bumped into an Inquisitor. Yelling he said " What are you two rats doing, What is that? " Then he proceeded to grab the stack of papers from Dave and A after glancing at them. He Older to turn around by the time to Two will being put into separate cars They were surrounded by A army of inquisitors, Even a few Revival Sorcery Made An appearance There wear the Mystical leaders Of the society and The only people who knew how to create and maintain the artificial sun's At least as far as He understood. They eventually took him into an interrogation room. They asked a lot of questions. But he refused to speak a single Word. And then they turned to forcing him to say all he knew. Seven guards beat him Until he passed out.
Dave woke up. He did not know where he was. Someplace dark he couldn't see his hand in front of his face. He was lying on the ground. The ground was stone. No, it was concrete. He got up and rect he hand out and found the wall it was concrete to. He walked around the cell. It was 5ft by 5ft with a dore made of mietl. And nothing else. Only the darkness.
He did not know how long he was out or how long he was setting thayer. That is to say he lost all sense of time. He sat and he sat and he sat with nothing to do but think. He did not want to think but he had to. What was going on, what was going to happen to him, who or what was behind it, how was his family doing. He felt so many emotions, anger, sadness but most of all fear... fear. His imagination ran wild. He thot up all sorts of possible answers to the qwstens.
And then ... and then he was no longer alone. He did not see it but he felt it. Felt its parsons. It gave him an unexplainable feeling of..of unezenes, weakness his weakness feit oves. He felt vulnerable. He felt fear so much fear. A voice came from the thing he did not hear it with he eats more loak a voice in his head. " I can not take away that weakness but I can give you power." he did not trust the thing but.... But he had to stop the weakness.
" power at what cost ' he said out loud
" the cost of power is having I power others dont " the thing sad to his mind.
" how is that a cost " he sad to the thing,
The thing responded " you we learn that in the end, but do you accept my offer "
" yes.... Yes I will take the power"
Something changed inside him, something fundamental yet nameless.
" dran the cage " it said and then the thing laft.
He did not know what that meant. He did not feel great power but something was different. He aprcht the door. He felt something in the door. something buzzing. He.. he almost by intink pood it in. His hand crackled with electricity, it was a powerful electric storm within the electric lok on the door was undone and the door swung open. The light was blinding at first but in a few moments his eyes adjusted to the light. The light was dim but it was a burning sun compared to the darkness. He was in a hall going right to left, each one ending meeting another hall going forward and backward. There was no guard in the hall he was in. He had to get out of thary. He heard footsteps coming from the hall to the left. He ran to the right; he almost ran into a guard coming from the right when he turned the corner. He blasted out almost all of the electricity. The grand dropped to the ground, Deed. There was a sickness in his heart at the act but no time to think of that naw he had to run.
He went forward down the hall running. The guard to the left did not notice the thud of the body or the sound of his running for he did not give cace. The hall trend left at the center of the hall was a star way at the far end it went back into the dungeon. As he ran up the sateway he darnd the electricity from the lite in the hall leaving the guards in darkness but him in the sary wall in lilat. He reached a door draining it opened. He blasted the 2 guards outside of it and he was in.. a hallway, a hallway of an office building.
