Standing before him was a charming and lovely girl, her bright eyes filled with concern.

From a young age, Xu Yanbai had shown exceptional aptitude for numbers. In school, while his grades in other subjects were dismal, mathematics remained consistently strong. His mind was agile and always quick-witted, particularly when it came to calculations. He could solve complex formulas within seconds and devise flawless plans just as rapidly.

With sharp intellect and unflappable composure, he effortlessly handled even the most challenging problems. Yet now, gazing upon the face before him—the very face that haunted his dreams and tormented him for years—his usually astute brain felt like mush. He stared at her, seemingly frozen in time and space.

His thoughts ceased, his rationality vanished, and even his soul felt trapped at that moment. In an instant, an uncontrollable memory surged forth.

It was the summer of his seventeenth year. Covered in wounds, he had run for a long time until reaching a quiet alleyway. Leaning against a weathered wall, his chest throbbed painfully from exertion, compounded by multiple injuries across his body. Struggling to stay upright, he slowly slid down along the wall onto the ground.

On the other side of the wall, a peach tree grew from a nearby resident's yard. Its branches stretched out, laden with fruit, filling the air with a sweet, refreshing scent.

Cicadas chirped amidst the tree, while above them stretched a deep azure sky—vast and clear. A warm breeze blew past, making him feel uncomfortably sticky and damp.

Suddenly, the sound of a bicycle bell rang out as someone rode through the alley entrance. The chime mingled with the wind, its crisp melody seeming distant yet resonant. After passing the alley, the rider hesitated and circled back. Noticing him crouched in the corner, she paused briefly before setting her bike aside and approaching.

Behind her, the blue sky merged with distant mountains. Sunlight illuminated the verdant foliage, casting lush shades of dark green on the leaves and lighter hues on the grass, shimmering vibrantly under the sun's rays—a scene reminiscent of a vividly colored painting.

On that day, the mild breeze carried the pleasant aroma of peaches.

She still had bright, sparkling eyes, conveying worry as she asked him, "Are you okay?"

Memories and reality mixed, leaving him unsure whether what he saw was an illusion or the truth.

To be honest, when Chen Ruosu first saw this man, his appearance astounded her. His carefully combed hair, trimmed short and somewhat ruffled with gel, framed his brow with a few stray strands, producing an appealingly unkempt appearance. He had a fair complexion, heavy brows, expressive eyes, a big nose, and lips pressed into a thin line that curled slightly at the corners.

His appeal was unique, and it made him stand out wherever he went.

The crucial point was that his characteristics were ideally suited to Chen Ruosu's preferences, attracting her from their first meeting.

However, the way he stared at her seems strange. Although his facial expression appeared perplexed, his eyes expressed a complex combination of emotions—surprise, horror, incredulity, and suspicion—all linked and building intensely, like an approaching storm.

She was surprised as these eyes met hers, despite the fact that there was no overt threat in his gaze. However, beyond the surface, she detected a trace of savagery, making her question how such a wonderfully gorgeous man could have such unsettling eyes.

Chen Ruosu swallowed anxiously before asking again, "Are you... are you okay?"

Suddenly, like a crisp jingle echoing from afar, it burst through his nightmare-like state and brought him back to reality. Almost automatically, he clutched her shoulders, feeling the warm softness beneath his hands.
