Hua'an Road's Golden Street is located in An City's high-tech district. Though less crowded than the city core, it featured concentrations of technological companies and quickly rising emergent industries. This area attracted a large number of "tech laborers" and produced many new industrial elites, resulting in a higher level of life than neighboring mixed communities. Furthermore, numerous important commercial areas converged nearby, resulting in a hot region that had seen considerable development in recent years, with every inch of land holding substantial value.
Lixing Capital held a whole office tower on Hua'an Road's Golden Street, an impressive display for an unlisted corporation.
On the top floor, outside the chairman's office, Zhang Yi, the assistant, fixed his collar and quietly scented himself before knocking on the door.
Zhang Yi pushed the door open after hearing a reaction from within. The office was large yet modestly equipped. The left wall housed a bookshelf and desk, while the center held a tea table and sofa for guests. Opposite them, near the floor-to-ceiling windows, was a giant pot of broad-leaf orchids with an unknown name.
At that time, Xu Yanbai, Chairman of Lixing Investment Company, was sitting at his desk analyzing business proposals from various companies. He was recently in high demand, with numerous firms competing for his services.
He wore a dark green casual shirt with a straight collar, which seemed extremely casual for a business environment.
Zhang Yi occasionally felt that his supervisor was quite relaxed, particularly when it came to clothing choices. Xu Yanbai never followed conventional styles, even on the most formal occasions. He would not choose pristine, rigid shirts and trousers that immediately projected a corporate elite image. However, his garments were not inappropriate—they were formal shirts and pants with distinctive designs that exuded a trendy flair. It often felt more like strolling down a runway than attending a conference. However, portraying him as carefree may not be totally accurate, as his approach to work was rigorous to the point of perfection, leaving no tolerance for even slight mistakes.
Zhang Yi cleared his throat and respectfully stated, "Mr. Xu, things have settled down at Qinggua with no significant recent developments."
Xu Yanbai set down the documents he was carrying and relaxed back in his chair. He had risen to prominence in the venture capital market despite his youth, at only thirty years old. With a tight diet and controlled lifestyle practices, his face appeared younger than his true age. His eyes, on the other hand, were shrewd and mature. One look into those eyes caused people to forget his youthful appearance, generating an innate sense of reverence.
At that point, his gaze narrowed slightly, and the edges of his gorgeous lips curled upward as he said, "Director Ma appears to be well conscious of his position, which is good. A son should behave accordingly."
Zhang Yi took in a sharp breath. Director Ma, as revealed by his supervisor, was the founder of Qinggua Video, a popular video platform. Naturally, as its founder, Director Ma might be considered an important player in the industry. However, the boss simply addressed him as 'son.'
Of course, Xu Yanbai is largely responsible for Qinggua's current success. Given their history, calling him 'son' was not altogether inappropriate.
Director Ma was a recently graduated college student who was determined to start his own video platform despite his financial situation. He possessed both technical expertise and ideas but lacked cash. Several investors turned him down, but serendipity led him to Xu Yanbai. Seeing potential in Director Ma's concept, Xu Yanbai eagerly invested.
At the time, Xu Yanbai was only 24 years old, when many people were just starting to face the harsh realities of adulthood. However, at the age of 24, Xu Yanbai already had more experience than most of his colleagues. He had achieved some recognition in venture capital circles, but not quite as much as he is now. Legend has it that Xu Yanbai entered the job at an early age, without attending university. One prominent quality of his was his strong sensitivity to numbers. By the age of nineteen, he was trading stocks and options, even spending two years on Wall Street. In his early twenties, he made his first million via stock investments. Following his success, he moved into direct investing, frequently taking unconventional chances on unusual enterprises regarded as unpromising by others. The venture capital business conferred upon him an appropriate nickname.
