It is often said that where there's life, there's also an afterlife. That phrasing couldn't have been truer to me as it is now. I don't exactly recall what life had been for me before I got myself tangle in this new one. All I know is that this is the one I have now. It all started years ago, on a night that would forever change my fate in this world I was born into.

"Arghhhhh!!!"

The sound of a woman screaming in pain reverberated heavily within the hall of a hospital. It shows the room where the entire procedure was taking place. A woman in her twenties with auburn hair tied on the ponytail to the left was wearing only a hospital gown and she was sweating profusely. She has been in labour for nearly eight hours now and despite the doctor's best effort, there was a complication that was occurring that made the whole birthing process slow down a lot.

"How are the babies coming along, doctor?"

It was a male who was also in his twenties with spiky black hair. He was holding the hand of the woman going into labour who was no doubt his wife.

"We're doing all we can for your wife, Mr. Ayase. But there seems to be a breech and what's worse, if we move them now there's a risk that the umbilical cord would entangle around her neck."

This news worried the husband greatly and even he can tell his wife was also in the same mind but she was too much in pain to focus on the ramification of what this could mean for her children.

"Please tell me you can helped them, doctor?!"

The man cried out, clearly distressed by the news.

"We can try a C-section but...as it is your wife already loss a lot of blood. If we performed a surgery now there's a chance you might lose her. I'm sorry, Mr. Ayase."

And the dreaded possibility hit the man hard. Save the mother and they would lose their children but save the babies and he would lose his wife. The inner turmoil felt within was too much that the man's hold on his wife's hand almost slacken if not for the firm squeeze, he felt coming from said wife.

"Ryotaro, please let our children live. They deserved it more than me..."

"Mamori...I...But I don't want to lose you too..."

Said the man holding back his pain sob. The wife however gave her husband the most loving smile as if to reassure him despite her own tears were now flowing from her eyes.

"I know...I don't want die. I'm scared but I'm more terrified of the idea that I won't give them a chance to come into this world and experience all that it could offer them. The Gods were kind enough to finally grant us our wish..."

But before she can continue on...something happened that to this day was still a mystery to all those who were involved with the pregnancy of one Ayase Mamori. A sudden blue glow shine from within her but most importantly it was coming from her womb and before she realized it, she felt a shift and the doctor too mesmerized by what has happened almost missed what one of the nurses said,

"Doctor! The baby girl's changing position! Her head is now on the ideal position!"

The doctor not wanting to waste this opportunity, went back to assisting Mamori with her delivery.

"This is incredible...she's almost halfway through. One more push, Mrs. Ayase! The baby is almost out now."

Despite how tired Mamori was earlier, she has gained a newfound strength to do what was needed and not long after, the first baby was successfully birth. The doctor and nurses went to work to cut off the umbilical cord and immediately helped with the next birth and unlike with the baby girl this one didn't have much issue and thus...both twins were born safely. And this the tale of how one of them became a protector.
