The sun was barely peaking over the small loft as someone lay restless in their sleep. For the past 4 hours, nightmares kept flooding back uncontrolably. So when he finally woke up, he was drenched head-to-toe in a very cold sweat. He couldn't catch his breath, he was shaken by the recent nightmare, the one he had just woken up from. It took him roughly 5 minutes to actually calm himself down and breath. He glanced at the clock and sighed as he slid out of the bed. Gabriel stood up and went to put on a shirt to cover his scarred up back as he wondered about some old and new friends. He slipped on some jeans and he remember something. "Sh-t!" He yelled, suddenly in a rush. "F-ck. f-ck, f-ck." He said as he looked for his shoes. He slipped them on, grabbed a hoodie and his car keys, racing out the door. He ran down the 2 flights of stairs and ran to the public garage. He spotted his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and he ran to the drivers seat, getting in, starting the engine, and sped out of the garage. Gabriel raced down streets and back roads. He was really late. The filled nitrous tanks sitting right behind his stick-shift and between the driver and passenger seats.
About 10 minutes later, he pulled up and parked the car. Apparently, he was early, not late. He turned the car off and got out and walked to the hood of the car. He smiled and sat on the hood watching the city wake up. This small lookout held so many memories. He crossed his arms over his chest loosely, listening as a 1990 Dodge Stepside pulled up beside him. "Gabe?" A familiar voice sad as Gabriel turned and smiled at him. "Sup Old Man." He grinned as they hugged. "I'm not that old, a-s." Mitchell said, lightly punching Gabes good shoulder. Gabe chuckled.
"Last I check 32 is pretty old."
"Says the single 92 year old."
"Shut the f-ck up." He laughed out.
Gabriel and Mitchell known each other for about 5 years but when you're doing drag races you get to learn a ton about other racers. "Heard anything from Kyle or Tess?" Gabriel asked. Mitchell shrugged. "Last I heard Kyle is headed this way and Tess is driving up now." And Mitchell wasn't wrong. Tess always had an eye out for Chargers so when she pulled up in her black 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, he wasn't surprised. She revved her engine for show and earned some whoops, whistles, and hollars. She turned it off in park and walked over.
Hello, sh-theads." Tess smiled as she hugged them both. "The old lovers reunited." Gabriel smiled at Tess and Mitch. "Oh shut it, G." Tess said. About a year ago MItch and Tess had broke up for personal reasons. After a few minutes of talking, Kyle showed up fasionably late. "Leave it to Kyle to get fancy." Mitch muttered under his breath earning snickers from Tess and Gabe Kyle drove up in his 2023 Tesla Cybertruck. Mitch, Tess, and Gabe just stood their watching as Kyle turned it off and got out. "God, such a hard crowd." He had a lopsided grin as well as everybody just started laughing.
When everyone finally calmed down from all of the laughter, Mitchell seemed really distant. Tess glanced at Gabriel and she knew that something was off about Mitch.
=Mitchell's Perspective=
He smiled at everyone but the reason on why he asked everyone here still lingered in the depths of his mind. He didn't realize that he head zoned out till Gabe put a hand on his shoulder. "Mitch... are you ok?" He asked clearly worried about Mitch. He sighed. "It's about an invitation I had gotten about a few days ago. Being a groupof racers in a really big city is a challenge" Everyone was listening intently to every word that Mitchell said. "To get to the point, we were recommended into the Challege." Mitch said, glancing up at everyone.
The Challenge was a series of races. A racer never goes against another team mate. To be the winner was something rare. You see, the Challenge was something that happenes every 7 years and to be recommended for it? That in itself was huge for any solo or group racers. But the location was always picked at random.
Tess was the first to ask.
"How many possible races?"
"Well, not including the Final, about roughly 400-500 races."
He answered. "Location?" Gabriel asked next. "Rio." Tess sighed. "The last race.." She shook her head and sighed. "A team mate died and I don't need to remind everyone about that." Gabriel snapped and stood up straight. "We need to honor Khaine then! Let's win this Challenge for him!" Tess looked at him. "And we could lose someone again! That's what happened because we were wreckless!" Tess defended.
Their was so much tension. "I am leaving." Gabriel said, turned his back to the group and got into his car. Mitch walked over to the driver side window. "Gabe.. don't do this.." Gabe started the car. "Back off Mitchell. I don't want you to get hurt." He put the car in reverse and sped off down the road, leaving tire marks where he was parked.
