3: bridges

Nobody moved. Gabriel stood still wondering if it was him who got shot but didn't feel it yet. He looked around, no blood so far. He looked at the car to his left. The driver was fine, just shaken. He looked at the driver on his right and paled. His body fell onto his steering wheel, the engine still on. Gabriel looked at Lana who was holding the pistol to the driver side window. Lana looked around at everyone. "Don't try to steal from me. Or you'll end up like Robin. Someone clean this up and everyone scatter and go home."

Gabe's been sitting in the same parking spot for 30 minutes now listening to the traffic about him. He left roughly an hour ago, drove around for half an hour and stopped here under the highway bridge. Memories flooded back to him. Memories of him either pulling the trigger or looking into the barrel of a gun. Gabe sighed and leaned his seat back to stare at the ceiling of his car. He was remembering two different emotions connected to bridges.

Rose and pain.

Back in high school, he brought Rose under a bridge as a date on time. She challenged him. 'Take me somewhere I've never been.' And he brought her to this bridge. Not the best place but he completed the challenge. But it was a hot summer night, two teens, in a closed place that nobody knows of.

Gabe sighed, blinking back tears. 2 years ago, Rose disappeared completely. No contact since, just everything connected to her, gone.

But the pain. He's been brought under bridges to die. To kill or be killed. Seeing Lana hold a gun to another's head. He had to leave. He had a panic attack when he first parked under this bridge. It was almost 1 in the morning. I need to get home. He thought as he fixed his seat. He pushed down the clutch and turned the key, bringing life to Old Kim, his car.

He drove through the quiet streets and slowly went to his apartment. He unlocked his door and Lukis welcomed him home as he closed the door and put the keys on the counter. Gabe kicked his shoes off, fed Lukis and went to bed.

Just a normal day.
