Of My Eyes Part 9

The mini golf course was situated alongside a small cliff face that was created about ten years ago when the state made cuts in a hill to aid the rerouting of the road.
When our group made it to the fifth hole, we were alongside that cliff face.
As Emily was lining up her shot, May tugged on my sleeve, motioning for me to look at the cliff face.
Both Julie and I looked over to where May was pointing.
Just as we were turning, Julie and I saw the flash of colors of our mantis shrimp friends as they scurried back into the rocks.

"Frank, did you see that?
Are those the same ones we saw before?"

"Julie, I'm not sure, they could be.
Do you think we could get them to wear little name tags?"
Julie said with a laugh.

"Julie I'm beginning to wonder if anyone else has seen these things.
After all, if they were willing to come out of the cliff face in broad daylight, it would make sense that others had seen them.
Julie What about getting other people involved in this?
After all, this could be a historic event.
The very idea that there are these creatures living among us.
I mean, how often does something like this happen?"

"Frank I don't know about that, at least not yet.
I think we need to know more about these things before we turn them and our lives over to a million other people.
You know that sooner or later the government is going to get involved in this.
I mean, we discovered creatures that, for all practical purposes, shouldn't exist."

"Julie I think you are right, we need to do a lot more studying before we go shouting to the world what we found.
I'm still wondering if anyone else has seen them.
Julie I had forgotten to mention what happened last night.
When I went home to relieve the sitter, she was spooked out of her mind.
She told me that she had seen a strange thing out of the corner of her vision.
I didn't say anything to her about our guests, but there is now one more person who has seen them.
I don't know if she is going to chalk this up to an overactive imagination or not.
But only time will tell."

Forty-five minutes later, the scores were tallied up, and we declared Emily the winner by two strokes.
As we left the mini golf park, Emily found it great joy in lauding her win over her sister's head.
May took this ribbing with a good-natured attitude, knowing full well that she was going to deliver payback in a most dramatic way.

In the car, the girls began to pepper Julie with questions.
May was the most vocal of the two.
Today must be her turn as the spokesperson of the two.

"Miss Marks, are you and my daddy dating?
Will you tuck us in again tonight?
You know that you have to read us a bedtime story if you want the job of official tucker-inner.
Do you think my Daddy is handsome?
We think he is the most handsomest man in the world.
Are you a good cook?
My daddy can cook Dino pancakes and waffles.
He makes really good brontosaurs burgers."

When we hit the next red light, I turned in my seat to ask May.

"May, what would Miss Marks say if you were to ask her a million questions."

"Daddy she would love it,
how could she not?
Miss Marks loves it when she reads to the class during story time.
Daddy, I think Miss Marks would make a good mommy for us.
She's smart, and she is a lot of fun.
But we need to see if she can cook."

Turning my eyes to the front, I saw that Julie was blushing ten shades of red, while trying to stifle her laughter at May's remarks.
As the light turned green, my phone began chirping.
At the next light, I pulled over into a gas station to answer the call.
The caller ID told me it was Tom James, calling me about the proposal he put together about reopening the mine entrance.
Tom told me he was in town and would like to meet with me tomorrow evening if I was free.
