“Mr. President, we have the confirmation,” the secretary told the man standing by the window. “It's…it's affirmative that the Frenz-virus is now…out of hand.”
The man lifted his eyes from the distant burning town to the dark sky. How could that be so peaceful when hell struck the world?
“Thank you,” he told the secretary quietly. He turned and straightened. “ Tell the public now--they deserve to at least know, so they may have a chance to…to say goodbye.”
“Sir? What are you saying?” The secretary asked nervously.
“I'm saying,” the president said in a husky voice, “That the apocalypse has begun.”**********
“Sarah, what's wrong with Mom?” the little girl asked, staring with wide horrified eyes to the form of their mother on the floor. She was writhing and wailing like she was in immense pain.
Her older sister shook her head as she held up the pistol. “C-Cadence…go find Micheal--he'll help you to the shelter.”
“But you can't just stay here!” the girl protested. “What about Mom?” She glanced again at their mother who suddenly twisted her hip with a horrifying CRUNCH.
“Cadence, go!” Sarah yelled.
Cadence stumbled back and started for the front door, but she froze when she heard a snarl.
She turned to find her mother staggering towards Sarah. Her hair fell in her face and her skin looked a pale sickly grey. Her eyes were bloodshot and her irises…were a solid black.
Sarah fired, and their mother staggered back. She let out a screech and then lunged.
And Sarah fell to the ground, screaming.
“No!” Cadence cried, running for them.
Their mother looked up, fresh blood smeared across her face. Cadence stopped.
“M-mom?” she asked quietly.
Their mother emitted another hellish screech and attacked.
