It's snowing. Elvis has the day off. I've been here at the hospital since last night, pulling a double shift. I make my rounds to see all my patients. Molly comes over" chels. Let's go grab lunch." I looked up from checking my patients chart I said" mol, I'd love to but I have to have Mr Griffith to surgery. Call the blood bank tell them to send me 3 units of a Postive please, and hurry." I run with the EMTs I said" someone open trama bay one now: get a cat scan, chest X-ray. Now" I didnt see Vernon or Red. I was chatting what needed charted. Red walks over," E said to meet him for lunch" I said" okay" I saw Elvis in one of his fancy suits black and white shirt blue coat gold belt blue pants I blush." Hi" he kissed me and said" hi baby, now, I have somethin for you. I know your not big on having to bands for the fact if our job but I made this for you" it was his birthstone in mine. I hugged him" thank you and you look handsome" I hugged him, he pulled back, with me in his arms smiling he says" you are pretty" I bushed" honey I'm in my work clothes" he smiled and said" your still pretty. Even in scrubs." And winked at me, I kissed him, forgetting myself I hear the door open, Lindsay peeps in" C, it's your mom, she's coding" I don't think I turn and run to her room , Elvis and Lindsay on my tail behinde me I get the cart, shock her... nothing. I try two more times. I take off my lab coat, even though it's unprofessional I take my gloves off, start doing chest compressions. Lindsay says" chels, stop. She's gone." I said" no she's NOT!!! She's not!!" I keep working on her, Derek Elvis Bailey all come in, Elvis looks at Derek and Bailey" i know what to do. Just wait here" he opens the door, gives Lindsay a "I got her" she smiled and walked out of the room. I didn't see E, I kept trying" come...." I keep giving everything I have " mom wake up please??" Elvis walked over took my hands In his pulling me close" baby, she's gone." I hugged Elvis crying like I've never cried. Realizing she's not coming back.  Elvis put his arm around my waist walking me out everyone just hugs me. " I failed" I said as soon as Christi  hugged me" honey no. You tried. Go home, you need to process this, or you'll loose your job" I said" excuse you, what'd you just say mam?" Christi said" you helped your gram" I said" and?" Elvis walked over" she owns this place. It was her blood sweat tears that made this hospital. That was her gram. You would've too had it been your folks. I would've fer my dad" I hugged him. Christi said" Chels you can go to hell" I said" what? If you think you can talk to me like this, your wrong, in fact turn in your badge your done. You've been after Bailey since day one of her career I ain't having it" and I turned to her after seeing Elvis. " I want you gone by dinner." And walked with him to my lunch break.
