Chapter 7 - Midsummer

I am trying to keep a lot of the themes from the original series but i am not going to have the treasure hunt, there will be other things found in the Grady White but those Square Groupers will be showing their faces here soon.

The moment I set foot in The Wreck the lunch rush was in full swing. I piled my stuff at the corner of the table and gave JJ quick kiss before grabbing an apron and jumping into it. When I had a free second I dropped off a water to him as I passed by to help another table. Halfway through my shift John B and Kie showed up. I motioned them to the back table where JJ was now messing with the sugar packets.

"Been busy?" Kie asked leaning on the counter.

"Was... its calmed down a bit though." I nodded. "Think you can convince your dad to give the boys free food?"

"Ha!" Kie laughed. "He's more likely to say yes to you Roe." But she went over to her dad anyway I could hear their conversation about the intake for the day and then the slip in of her question. Dropping off some food at one of my tables I slid beside Kie.

"Come on Mr. C, you know you'll have to throw food out at the end of the night anyway." I pleaded. Mike Carrerra looked between his daughter and me an unamused look on his face. Finally after half a beat he sighed and bowed his head.

"Yeah I guess you're right." Kie made a small squeal and gave her dad a hug as I went around to put in an order for the table. Kie helped me finish up the last run of tables as the food for the group finished up and when we brought it to the boys they both grinned widely.

"Where's Pope?" I asked turning to them after I dropped a check off at the table beside them.

"Heywards got him on lockdown after..." Kie said going quiet looking at JJ and myself. I nodded in understanding. "Plus Heywards seafood is catering Midsummer tonight so he's there helping out."

"Shit that's right, that's tonight." I turned. "That would be explain why your dad is closing early."

"You going?" Kie asked and I laughed taking a place on JJ's knee, his hand going to my hip giving it a slight squeeze.

"I haven't been to Midsummer since my mom was around." I shook my head grabbing a fry from the basket in front of us. "Okay so I have like 5 minutes before I have to go check on tables, can we go over the plan quickly?"

"Right. Yeah." John B nodded and I could see the excitement.

"Did Sarah get the scuba gear?" I asked.

"Yes... and no." John B said squinting his eyes and moving his hand in a 'so-so' motion.

"What does that mean?" Kie asked raising an eyebrow.

"Ward would only give her the gear on the boat, which hasn't been filled or replaced since before Agatha." He explained and I looked up at the ceiling shaking my head. "I think she said there is maybe one tank that is good."

"Great..." I say quietly. "So when do we do this? I know they are talking about closing the marsh in a few days so if we are doing this we need to do it like yesterday."

"Midsummer is tonight yea? Everyone will be out late, so we head out first thing go down and be out before anyone is up and ready to search." JJ said and John B and him did their handshake making me smile.

"That easy huh?" I say

"I mean yeah, go in, get to the cargo hold, grab the shit and get out." JJ shrugged.

"Hey Rowyn you got someone waiting for you." I heard one of the hostess call from the front. I did a quick glance holding up my finger before standing.
