Y/n, wake up."
Taro nudged his sister's shoulder lightly, his voice tinged with irritation. When she didn't respond, he sighed dramatically and muttered under his breath, "Ugh, she snores sooo loud."
Resigned, he resorted to softly slapping her cheek, attempting to rouse her without causing a scene. He was about to try again when a voice interrupted him.
"Taro? What are you doing here, man?"
Taro froze, recognizing the familiar tone. He turned his head slightly, just enough to confirm his suspicion. Standing there was none other than Isagi Yoichi, the last person Taro wanted to see.
'Oh, Isagi?' he thought, his expression darkening. 'Why is this weirdo talking to me?'
As if the situation couldn't get more annoying, Isagi wasn't alone. Clinging to his arm like a bad fashion accessory was Lola, his girlfriend.
'Weirdo and his even weirder girlfriend,' Taro grumbled internally.
Isagi, seemingly oblivious to Taro's annoyance, waited for a response. When none came, the silence quickly grew awkward. It was Lola who broke it, smirking as her gaze drifted toward Y/n's unconscious form.
"Oh, you're Y/n's brother? I would be so embarrassed, honestly—"
"Shut up."
Taro's voice was sharp, his glare snapping to Lola before settling firmly on Isagi.
"Don't talk about my sister like that," he snapped, his tone firm with anger. "There's nothing embarrassing about her."
Isagi's expression faltered at the sudden hostility, but he quickly recovered, opening his mouth as if to defend himself. Before he could speak, however, Taro stepped closer, his eyes filled with unspoken judgment and disappointment.
"I hope you know how much your rejection impacted my sister," Taro said, his voice low and bitter. The words cut like a knife, sharper than anything he could've yelled.
Isagi stiffened, his usual confidence fading into guilt. His mouth opened, but no words came out. Lola shifted uncomfortably by his side, sensing the tension but unsure how to address it.
Not waiting for a response, Taro knelt beside Y/n and gently scooped her into his arms. She stirred slightly but didn't wake, her head resting limply against his shoulder.
'Big sis is heavy,' Taro thought with a groan, adjusting his grip. 'I really need to start training or something.'
Straightening up, he turned back to Isagi and Lola one last time, his gaze icy and unreadable.
"Bye," he said curtly. "See you around. Maybe... Maybe you'll realize your mistake someday."
Without another word, Taro walked away, carrying his sister with surprising care despite his earlier complaints.
Isagi stood frozen, the weight of Taro's words pressing down on him. He glanced at Lola, who shrugged, clearly dismissive of the entire encounter.
But Isagi's thoughts weren't so easily brushed aside.
For the first time, he began to wonder if he had been wrong.
