As Salam Aleykou
Cheick Ahmed Ben Haidara
My name is Cheick Ahmed Ben Haidara. I am 28 years old, and I am the richest man in my country. I work in the import-export business, and my transit companies are established in several countries. Thanks to this, I have been able to secure a prosperous future for my family. My mother, Aicha Kattra, is 50 years old and doesn't need to work; she has everything she needs to be happy. My father, Brahim Haidara, passed away ten years ago. Since then, I have taken on the role of head of the family.
I have two brothers and two sisters. Isaack, 26 years old, is married to Ami, who is 24, and they have an adorable two-year-old daughter named Aicha, after our mother. Isaack works with me to manage our businesses. Zakaria, 24 years old, got married only three months ago to Awa, 21, and he also helps me with our family affairs. Alima, my 21-year-old sister, is continuing her university studies in Morocco. Finally, there is Kady, my little princess, who is 15 years old. She is in the 10th grade, but unfortunately, she lost the use of her legs a few years ago. Despite numerous medical consultations, the doctors couldn't find any apparent cause. Yet, she still cannot walk. I hold on to hope and will do everything for her.
My daughter, Noor, is 5 years old. Six years ago, I married a woman I thought was the love of my life: Madina. She was an enchanting woman, capable of charming any man. We met in high school, and after four years of dating, we got married. But as soon as we were married, she changed completely. Madina became mean, demanding, and indifferent, getting along with no one. She constantly asked for money, which wasn't an issue for me because I loved her. I was the happiest man when Noor was born, but Madina became even more distant. She would let Noor cry for hours without taking care of her; it was my mother and I who took care of the baby.
The arguments with Madina became daily, until the day when Noor was only three months old. I came home to find my mother in tears.
Flashback
Me: Mom, what's going on? Tell me it's nothing serious.
My mother: My son, I'm sorry... Madina is gone. She took all her things and told me to tell you that she was fed up with you, that she never loved you, and that she was only with you for your money. She added that she couldn't pretend anymore. As for Noor... she called your daughter 'that thing' and told me to tell you that you could do whatever you wanted with her, because she didn't want her. She signed the divorce papers and gave them to me. Then she left.
I couldn't believe it. I had given everything to this woman, and she had dared to abandon her own daughter, breaking my heart into a thousand pieces. Money never mattered to me; I earned enough to meet all her demands. I had been blinded by love.
Me: It's okay, Mom. Noor and I, we don't need her.
Present
After the divorce, Madina further humiliated me by demanding one billion CFA francs to disappear from our lives forever. I gave her the money, but since then, my view of women has changed. To me, beauty only hides deceit. I became a cold and arrogant man, distrustful of all women. They call me 'Cheick' because I have performed the pilgrimage several times. I am a devout man, but I never want to let a woman approach me again, despite my mother's insistence.
Lately, my mother has been urging me to remarry for Noor's sake. She says that Noor has become very attached to a kind and caring woman. For my daughter, I am willing to do anything, even marry a stranger. However, she will only be Noor's mother, never my wife. I agreed to a religious marriage, with no grand ceremony. I don't want any congratulations. I will return to Bamako in a few days.
Adja
I agreed to this marriage for Noor. I am so attached to this little girl and couldn't leave her. I didn't want a big ceremony, just a simple wedding. I don't know anything about my future husband. My mother-in-law only told me that he would arrive soon.
The wedding was intimate, with only our close relatives. In the evening, my new family came to pick me up, bringing many gifts. My mother-in-law spoiled me with six suitcases full of treasures. I am really lucky to have such a generous and loving mother-in-law.
She pulled me aside to talk.
She: I chose you because I saw in you a pure and good woman. My son has suffered terribly because of his ex-wife. She told me what Noor's mother had done. "I don't want to regret this choice. Consider me your mother, not your mother-in-law. Ask me for anything you want, and don't forget: you are home here. Rest well, you must be tired. Your husband will arrive soon, and you'll have time to get used to the family. But be patient with Ahmed. He is a wounded man, and it will take time for you to understand him."
Me: I will do my best, Mom.
She: Thank you, my daughter.
So, his name is Ahmed... it doesn't matter. I won't let anyone walk all over me.
I hope you liked it 🥰
